It's no wonder why their cars catch on fire. Chevy should really think about hiring new electrical engineers.
Having a lot of friends in the automotive industry from various manufacturers, it is not the GM electrical enigeers at fault, they initially designed a very robust system and got many approvals of the Chevy Bolt's electrical system, however, then that prototype design went to the business accountants/ bean counters and managers which got dumbed down. GM has some of the best engineers but it is those business people that are destroying US produciton and businesses. Please

We need more of our smart kids going into engineering than Wall street, or else things catch on fire and we are all in trouble.

For anyone in the NY to DC area, there's a dealer in DE that doesn't mark up over MSRP - Diver Chevrolet. I'm not associated with them in any way. I was once simply exploring options of replacing one of my cars with a Bolt but never pulled the trigger. The salesman I spoke to said that they pick a lot of their customers up from the train station. The one way train fare is certainly a lot cheaper than the additional $1k delivery fee you'll pay through the chevy website.

Cecerious is absolutely correct. If you suspect your tax liability for this year isn't $750, rollover some 401Ks to Roth.
So you can have 401k traditional and Roth 401k in same year ?

Hate when people include tax credits into price that not everyone qualifies for without all the info, it's a little misleading in these ev/Tesla threads. This requires a tax liability of $7500 or more that you get after you file and is not point of sale. Also max income of $150-300k for single/married filers to qualify. Also there is nothing new here, this is MSRP, info on tax credit, and the charger install was always included with bolt purchase (since Feb '21)

edit: For clarification from the wiki: "The tax credit is not refundable, which means one must have federal tax due to take advantage of it. If the tax due is less than the credit amount, one can only claim the credit up to the amount of the tax due."
So lower income people will not get a $7500 refund, it depends on your liability. i.e. A SDer responded about a student being angry in a previous thread that they only got $500 back and not $7500.
Another illustration of how disconnect "progressive " politicians are. They are pushing EV's when we are not ready. Aside from battery tech and production which is a major problem. The core problem is producing enough electricity. We can't even come close. Our current demand is borderline now. And 10 of millions of EV's and there is no hope.

First task. Make electricity. Only viable way to handle demand for EV's is thorium reactors. I know everyone freaks out about nuclear. But educate yourself. If you want EV it's the only way.

In the mean time embrace hybrids. They address so many of ICE's shortcomings and will cut emissions by well over 50%.

I am for EV's. But blindly pushing something that is not ready for mass market is a sure why to fail.

The 2023 contribution limit for IRA's (combined Traditional and Roth contributions) is $6,500 per person per year, or $7,500 per year if you're 50 or older.

In 2022, the contribution limits to workplace plans, such as 401(k)s, are the lesser of $22,500, or 100% of compensation. Check out the IRS resources for more information.

Just IMHO this is one ugly stomp of a car, also discontinued, there will be potential parts shortage as well as fiasco with bad batteries....why would you even consider this as a "deal"?
While it's true that 99 out of 100 people will not confuse this with something designed by Italy's Pininfarina, this color in the OP isn't doing it any favors. Have you (or anyone else) looked at a 2023 Chevy Bolt EV Premier edition in black (see below)? As far econobox cars go, esp electric econobox cars... it's pretty damn good looking. That said, I noticed the MSRP for the Premier ed is $32,180... but if you can get it at MSRP, with the $7.5K tax rebate, it would only be approx $24,680. There are electric scooters that sell for over $5k!

Finally, your concern about replacement parts is a bit unfounded. First of all, it's a GM, and there are thousands of GM dealers with parts inventories, and secondly, I believe federal law requires all vehicle manufacturers in the United States to carry replacement parts for their respective vehicles for at least 7 years after the subject vehicle's last year of manufacture. So, you'll have replacement parts for many years to come.

Here's a pic of the Bolt in Premier trim - in black:

My general take here is that the ones who have nothing to lob except "it's ugly" "it's a death trap" "EVs are stupid and can't possibly work" have never owned one and know nothing about the vehicles they are railing against. Many of them are completely irrational about the subject, making false or at least misleading claims. It's really quite sad how averse some people are to change.

I personally like the style of my EUV. There are certainly uglier ICE cars being sold. Also, I'm not a teenager anymore so looks aren't the primary factor for me anyway.

I find it roomy enough inside even with 3 passengers.

I think for a new vehicle it's an exceptional price.

I think the battery will likely last as long as many engines/transmissions.

I believe it saves me money, both on gas and maintenance.

I think the electrical needs are being overstated. Some days I don't drive my car, 90% of the days I drive it less than 30 miles. Some people do drive more of course, but for the many of us who don't, we're taxing the electric grid very little.

More fast chargers are being built as we speak, but they'll never be needed in the same numbers as gas stations. Most people charge their EVs at home. I will save time and hassle not going to "fill up" anymore.

Above all, EVs are pleasant to drive in my opinion. Quiet and smooth and accelerate nicely.

If they aren't for you, that's great. Don't buy one. But resorting to petty, factually untrue insults is not only unnecessary, but kind of sad.

And for the Tesla fanboys who love to bash the Bolt, lay off a bit. As fellow EV owners, we have more in common with you than not. I have considered buying a Tesla for years, but for several reasons I chose the Bolt. I don't blame you for preferring the Tesla, but they do cost more and have certain aspects that are less desirable to some of us. Still, I'm glad to see more and more of them on the road each day. More EVs on the road will lead to better infrastructure for all of us I hope.
Good way to look at it....

One of the biggest things people miss with EVs is how many fewer (moving) parts they have... just so many fewer things that can break. I don't miss changing oil or serpentine belts, or having my transmission decide it should stop working and require a $5+K replacement.

I haven't installed a Level 2 (240 volt) charger at the house in 10 years of EV ownership because Level 1 (120 volt) slow charging works fine for me and my employer recognizes the need for Level 2 workplace charging. There's a Tesla supercharger (Level 3) a couple miles away plus free Level 2 chargers around town.

I speak with people at work who want to tear down EVs with things they have read on social media and most of them are just completely misinformed.

A couple points that usually get folks to change the subject:
  • The electricity that powers my car comes from at most a couple hours away (solar panels on the house) and the fuel that runs your F150 funds some countries that don't really have our best interests in mind (most of the middle east, Russia, etc.)
  • If folks truly don't care about tailpipe emissions, I'll sit in a closed garage running my car while you sit in a closed garage running your truck. Burning fossil fuels is simply dead technology at this point.

Refundable deposit is fine but don't do non-refundable deposit. If you do, they will take advantage of you because they can change the price up to delivery. A deposit doesn't guarantee you the price will stay the same. Only paying in full will guarantee that.
thanks for this insight

Agreed. Drove the LEAF before and currently in the Bolt EUV. Love the experience. No road trips (was a big hassle when doing 200 mile trek up to ski slope in the winter—doable but too much extra time at the DCFC) but excellent for local-ish commutes and trips.

Having said that, I have 2 cars so use the gasoline car for trips.

I think short to medium term, most people are better served by hybrids (40+ mpg) and/or PHEV, especially if you just have 1 vehicle.

If 2+ vehicles, then get EVs for the 2nd car. You might not save money vs gasoline (especially if your electricity cost is $0.40/kWh or more), but not having to deal with maintenance is a huge plus. Also great acceleration from red light stops 😄

This shouldn't be thought of as a political issue - it's really a public health issue. Continuing to burn stuff to generate electricity and move us around needs to stop as soon as possible if you care in any way about your children and their children.

We don't need to generate a massive new amount of electricity either -- we just need to become more efficient in the way that we produce it.

EVs can actually help stabilize the grid by helping flatten the peaks in demand:
