FYI-These are not the newer MAX output batteries. Those are $159 for a 2 pack for those that are interested. They advertise more power and runtime but not sure how true it is.

They actually have 3 battery lines. Regular, Octane and Max Output.

The others definitely have more power and runtime.

Looking at the top of the octane batteries I have, I notice those tools have an extra gate they plug into.

I wonder if all tools benefit from using "octane" or "max" batteries.

I thought octane batteries were discontinued. Haven't been able to find any in stores around here for quite some time. They don't even sell the octane tools. I've seen some refurbs and blemished ones sold online, but definitely not in stores, at least not around here.

For 10 bucks more, I JUST found a "Special Buy" in-store that was marked down to $89 (from $159 iirc) that included a 4Mah and 6Mah Max Output and the cute little bag. Worth taking a peek, I'm sure its in-store only.

I have been using these to run Dewalt tools with adapter and will buy some more. At least these come with lifetime warranty compare to generic Dewalt batteries.

I've been trying to figure out the same thing. My impact driver does not have the extra contacts but ridgid recommends max output batteries. Not sure if buying max output benefits me or them.

To me it seems like tools that are designed for the max output battery probably last longer using them vs standard. However does my light cannon or battery powered lights benefit any? The internet hasn't been a big help there.

The one Octane tool I own (an impact wrench) does have two extra receptacles that the inner prongs on the battery slide into, but no metal contacts within those. I'd bet Octane/MAX Output batteries just have a BMS that allows for higher current draws, and the Octane rated tools are simply capable of using that extra current.

Yeah that makes sense and hopefully is the case. It's just strange that they all use the same 18650 cells except for the 3ah octane and the 6ah.

I bought the Max Output kit with the 2ah and 2x4ah batteries and they have been pretty great.

The power is maybe a little more but the runtime is a lot longer.

Looks like there are some improvements. Project Farm did a comparison using a circular saw. I think the circular saw is not one of the new brushless models.
