Solid State Drives with a DRAM chip boast better performance than DRAM-less SSDs. This is because DRAM is much faster than NAND Flash memory. Instead of your PC having to root around your SSD for the relevant data, your PC can go straight to the DRAM. As a result, your PC won't have to wait very long for your SSD to retrieve the data it needs. This results in a much faster experience for the end user.
Flash memory cannot be written to byte by byte, you need to "nuke" an entire block. DRAM memory, however, doesn't have this problem. So they use this to store some bookkeeping information and rearrange writes so they can more efficiently erase and fill blocks (e.g. instead of one write request arriving for one byte, rerecording the entire block, then another for the byte next to it, again having to rerecord the entire block⦠they just cache the requests in DRAM, and then do it all in one go).
1. Samsung 980 & 980 Pro both have DRAM and support AES HW encryption.
2. The key difference is PCIe: 980 has 3.0 (Gen 3) vs. 980 Pro has 4.0 (Gen 4).
3. Gen 3 vs. 4 comparisons below apply to any NVMe SSD from Samsung, WD, etc.
* If the laptop or desktop mobo supports only PCIe 3.0, Gen4 SSD (980 Pro) will run at Gen3 speed (same as 980).
* If the mobo supports PCIe 4.0, Gen 4 SSD (980 Pro) can transfer a burst of data 2x faster than Gen 3 SSD (980). This may reduce file loading lags for some games.
* SSD Flash read/write are slower than PCIe Gen3/4. After an SSD used up its DRAM & SLC cache, longer transfers will slow down (similar for 980 Pro vs. 980).

* HMB (Host Memory Buffer) technology enables the SSD to use the DRAM of the host system for read/write caching and buffering
do you mean to use it on your samsung s21 mobile phone? I am not sure
