I am not an expert, but I believe the 970 evo plus has dram and the 980 (non-pro) does not have dram. I believe that is the biggest difference. In that case, if using the drive for an operating system, I would go with the 970 evo plus. If using it for storage, I think both would be fine. Please correct me if I'm wrong. thanks

I too would like an expert opinion on this as the 980 EVO and the 970 EVO PLUS are both the same price on Amazon.
Intent is to use an external M.2 NVME SSD Enclosure Adapter for use with a desktop PC. I would appreciate any advice on that as well..

From what I know, if you're gaming or have need for fast file transfers, 970 evo plus is faster cause it has the dram cache to speed up performance. 980 has none of that and it'll run a bit cooler if you're trying to install say into a laptop. Otherwise, 970 evo plus is the way to go

How do the two above stack up to the Samsung 1TB 990 PRO (prior deal for $79 or less from Samsung) or the 1TB WD Black SN850 NVMe M.2 SSD PCIe Gen 4 x4 Internal SSD w/ Heatsink at Walmart for $69?
