I guess the only way to "win" is to buy it when you really "need" the storage. Of course, for SD'ers, that bar can be be set really low or really high.

I think I'll hold off until manufacturers pay me to take their SSD's. Then, I'll start haggling on price from there. Smilie

I paid $38 for it about a month ago. Disk died in less than two weeks. Had to pay more than $10 to ship it to the vendor. It was delivered about a week ago. No response yet. The website said 10 to 16 business days to ship the new/ repaired drive back.

So it is not as cheap as it looks

Why didnt you just return it to amazon? Return shipping should be free for defective item

I recently bought the 1TB CX2 (possibly the non-Amazon version of the AX2) and my first impressions are very negative. Mine came with a Phison S11 (DRAM-less) controller and Micron 96-layer TLC NAND. That seemed pretty decent... until I started testing it. Starting with it empty, it only wrote about 5GB before the performance took a nosedive to just 50MB/s. At that rate, it may take 5-6 hours to fill the drive. Almost any 1TB hard drive will outpace that in sequentials.

The similarly priced PNY CS900 did a fair bit better. It's a virtually identical drive (same controller, PCB, even case) just with Kioxia 96-layer TLC. It absorbed about 20GB of writes before dropping to ~90MB/s. Not exactly great but still much better. It's also a controller/NAND combination I've seen hold up well long-term.

I'm nearly done giving Team Group the benefit of the doubt. I've yet to experience one of their products being anything other than pathetically slow.

Boy!!! I just bought before reading your comment, now I am little worried that I went for lower priced one instead of crucial one. (Originally, I was debating about buying PCI adapter for NVME SSD, but this price really made me to go this route.)

Be careful with TeamGroup AX2. Mine also started having issues after the return period. It's barely making 100 MB/s for both write and read.

It is a limbo game. The prices will bottom out at some point; they mispredicted demand before the economic outlook for this year turned out to be poor, so they're working through surplus NAND. They cut new NAND production drastically early this year.
