Nice price for a Gen 3 drive. Would make a good external.

As for "Matches all time low on ccc", you need to read what they say about their prices. They only show prices that Amazon has officially changed for longer periods, and that explicitly excludes sales. IOW, you may certainly be right about this, but remember that products may have also been put on sale many times before, and yet it never shows up in CCC.

Samsung 980 1TB is $10 cheaper

980 is MLC, 970 is TLC
Both are rated for 600 TBW
Not sure what other differences between them, sequential write speed is slightly faster on the 970 evo+ but they're close enough that you probably would never notice.

970 EVO = DRAM
970 EVO Plus = DRAM
970 PRO = DRAM
980 = No DRAM
980 Pro = DRAM

Advantages of SSDs with DRAM
Solid State Drives with a DRAM chip boast better performance than DRAM-less SSDs. This is because DRAM is much faster than NAND Flash memory. Instead of your PC having to root around your SSD for the relevant data, your PC can go straight to the DRAM. As a result, your PC won't have to wait very long for your SSD to retrieve the data it needs. This results in a much faster experience for the end user.
Flash memory cannot be written to byte by byte, you need to "nuke" an entire block. DRAM memory, however, doesn't have this problem. So they use this to store some bookkeeping information and rearrange writes so they can more efficiently erase and fill blocks (e.g. instead of one write request arriving for one byte, rerecording the entire block, then another for the byte next to it, again having to rerecord the entire block… they just cache the requests in DRAM, and then do it all in one go).

In for 1.

I hate buying stuff like this but my computer started cracking up two weeks ago. Boot errors, bad MBR records and corrupted accounts. After pulling my hair out for days on end trying to find the source and having reinstalled windows twice, I'm starting to suspect my old 250 gig SSD is finally on it's way out...

I like SSDs but I miss "the noise" you would get as a warning on an old mech drive.

Still works great though, no issues whatsoever.

On Amazon I am seeing a 20% off coupon code on the 2tb model, maybe its on this as well....but I could not make it work...anyone else seeing that?

I was also seeing a $10 off option too, but again, could not make it do its thing as far as I could tell.

80 bucks for one of these would ofc be pretty nice, especially seeing as Samsung is particularly pricey compared to everyone else but Hynix I think.

Or $60 best buy 'refurbed'. I'm hooked on these and pci3/4 adapter cards.

With all the low price SSD deals, this is just fine in the sweet spot of price, size, performance, and maker. What would you get trying to save another $15-$20?

I work in a lab for one of the consumer electronics companies that get posted here. Anecdotal but this is the only model of NVME that has actually failed on me. Actually a Kingston one did too.

Where are you seeing a 20% off coupon for the 2TB model?

Will these NVME work with Samsung's magician software? i tried yesterday on a SATA 870 EVO and found out none of the advertised Samsung "goodies" can be accessed when connected via external USB. Aka no turning on dram, optimization, etc.

Good drive. Used for 3 years, no heat sink, below cpu slot. Still fine. Hits 50 C while gaming, 40 ish idle.

Surprisingly, Samsung didn't recommend using a heat sink with this model on their website.
