The Filmore is kinda like the department store van, comes from a vans factory but made with basic canvas and suede. The skate sk8 hi is the upgrade sk8 hi, has extra cushioning, better rubber soles and an actual insole. I'd definitely say go for the skate sk8 highs, more comfortable and will last longer for sure

"I've seen other people make a claim that they are lesser materials than the core Vans models but I don't agree. To me, the materials seem to be exactly the same as my regular Old Skool, Slip-on and sk8 hi.
I am tough on my Filmores but I don't skate, and I do rotate what shoes I wear.
I did wear a pair of Ashers (the department store version of slip-ons) for a couple years working on cars and doing some remodeling work and they held up really well. They got exposed to a lot of grease, oil, and other chemicals, and scraping on the concrete when I was under the cars
The "skate" versions of the core Vans models are better materials for sure, like Skate old skool"
Ward is old school looking and narrower for my wide foot. Filmore is more modernized and more detailed with a wider fit. Both are pretty much identical with cushioning and height. Both can be used for activities like skateboarding and working out especially if you look for low to the ground, good contact feel. My favorite Vans are the Filmore (low or high).
I see some posters talking about Sk8-Hi shoes. I am literally holding my Filmore high top Navy and looking at the $80 Sk8-Hi shoe on the Vans website. They are pretty much the same exact shoe except for the little Vans sewn on label on the tongue difference (Says Vans with Filmore and the Sk8 Hi says Vans Off The Wall) and the you get a double stich line with the Filmore on the toe and the SK8 Hi has them separate. I don't believe that they aren't using some special rubber or special suede. Vans is just expanding and marketing to DSW and Kohls. The website has more color options of the Sk8 Hi and even a few models available in wide but you will definitely pay higher with the Vans website. Pretty much double than this sale deal.
I see there is a more expensive $90 "Skate Sk8-Hi" which is built more durable for skateboarding and then there is a $80 "Sk8-Hi" which looks almost pretty much identical to the Filmore High ($80 msrp). Filmore has their sales but they have been around $80 for long time especially some colorways like the grey checkerboard Filmore that always seems to be stuck at $75. When I tried to apply the 30% coupon code to the Filmore grey checkerboard high top at DSW, it doesn't qualify. Not paying that. Only clearance items.
