I've traveled to China several times for work. Very safe and easy to get around IMO.

But I haven't been since COVID, and I've heard that traveling throughout China is still somewhat difficult due to COVID-related restrictions. Limited flights and trains, risk of quarantine, mask requirements, etc. I think it'd be worth talking to someone who has traveled there recently before booking.

Is it safe to travel alone?
I was thinking the same thing!! It may be cheap to go there, but are you able to come back safely? or what will you "bring back" with you? sigh

How can you travel to China when:

1. While you, your wife and kids are enjoying yourselves, just a maybe a few feet from you is a place where they took the Uyghur kids they took from their parents and are re-educating them , totally erading their cultural background. Yeah, it's just western propaganda it never happened. Your kids are safe.

2. You can freely move around, just ignore the hundreds of thousands of cameras watching your every move. Pick your nose at your own risk.

3. Just ignore your governments warning not to travel there but please don't cry and burden our government to help free you. Take responsibility for your own action.

4. If the 2 riches country joins together to promote their tourism, just think maybe there's a reason why. People don't go there because they are AFRAID. Don't be a brave stupid ass#@%&.

5. There are 195 countries , there are better choices to visit. Just avoid the oppressive ones. It just emboldens them.

Well that's my 2 cents.

So many CCP shills in this thread. China isn't safe for US citizens. The United States has a borderline adversarial relationship with the CCP. Don't believe me? Go read the travel advisory on the State department's website. If you ignore their warnings and travel to China and get detained and used as a bargaining chip, you have only yourself to blame.

Yeah, How come China has never ever ruled Taiwan ?. Just like the Whole China Sea is part of China too. You have a delusional government.

Safest country in the world unless you disagree with politics , Xi Jinping and his puppets.
You have no idea what you are talking, Taiwan is part of China for the thousand years, only apart during time of Japan occupation.
Currently, their flagship Airline called China Airlines, people's passport printed with "China" in the first line in Chinese, and second line in English with China. Don't be nut if you don't know...

I came here for the comments lol, and does not disappoint. I have lived in Saudi for a few years and traveled to China for graduate program. The Saudi experience is a bit weird and as an American citizen I'd be weary of both (Saudia) and Beijing.

- Saudia is a state-owned airline, but if you ever get "detained" for whatever reason in Saudi during layover, as an American citizen you do have a higher chance of being able to get out as we have a better relation with the Saudis. If you are a woman traveling alone or someone not very culturally attuned, definitely take caution in Saudi and best not to wondering around or converse with the locals.

- China, unless you really need to be there, I'd stay away for now. There have been many cases of being detained and they DGAF if you're a US citizen. They can detain you with very little to no reason for political reasons. I understand if you have family there or need to conduct business, but for pure tourism, now is not an ideal time.

The US State Department has an open Level 3 travel advisory to "Reconsider Travel":

https://travel.state.gov/content/...isory.html

Note: this is the second highest travel advisory, below Level 4 "Do Not Travel" for Russia, Iran, etc.

At the risk of this getting political (which shouldn't happen as this is a deal forum), people on Taiwan DO have the freedom to migrate to, travel, live and work in mainland China. The reverse is not true, despite the government in Taipei still at least constitutionally claim to speak for all Chinese citizens. So that is an issue you'll have to square not with the government in Beijing.

Be fore warned my cousin's fiance who is Arab/Muslim went to Beijing and was detained and not allowed to enter the country. They even interrogated him and threatened him with prison. He is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He is a US citizen so they had to release him. But keep this in mind if your name is Abdul, Ahmad, or something Arabic you will not be able to enter.

That is actually quite the opposite, at least for now. The Democratic Progressive Party is in the government now and they DO NOT like Taiwanese who are living in mainland China. There are also tons of discriminations online towards their own people who live and work in mainland China. The Democratic Progressive Party even have tried to prevent them from going back to Taiwan to vote during last election since they assume them as "Pro-China" which is really stereotypical and jeopardizing democracy in Taiwan.

In terms of people from PRC living in ROC, they can live in ROC, but ROC will never give them "citizenship", it's more like a green card and they can never vote. As far as I know, a citizen of PRC living in Taiwan won't affect anything he/she has as a PRC citizen.
