This knife might look like a normal brake away blade knife, but it's much better. Why spend money on those cheep plastic knives that the blades are always breaking on or you can't cut as deep as you need. Pay a little more and get something that will last for years.

Here's a review from Pro Tool Reviews
Knipex CutiX Snap Knife Cuts with Precision, Without Bending or Breaking
Snap-off blades are great for their utility. When your sharp edge dulls out, you simply snap off the tip to reveal a new, sharp edge. However, because of the design of the blade, you have to be careful with the pressure you apply while cutting. These knives tend towards bending and inadvertently snapping the blade. But, Knipex has come up with a solution for this problem with the CutiX Snap Knife.
What's the Big Deal?
The Knipex CutiX Snap Knife features an extendable stabilization bar that you can engage or retract based on your application. This allows you to apply more pressure directly on the blade without any fear of breakage. Plus, because the support bar exists on a different slide than the blade, you can set it independently. For added security, the CutiX also features a hardened steel pin to help hold the blade in place.
Knipex has constructed the CutiX Snap Knife with a lightweight magnesium housing with a non-slip surface. You can use any 18mm snap-off blades with the CutiX, and you can store two replacement blades in the handle. Replacing the blade is easy, requiring only the push of a button. The CutiX also features a tether attachment point at the handle as well, so you can work at height without fear of dropping the knife
Other Features
Ergonomic shape gives you several gripping surfaces
Suitable for cuts with various depths and different materials

This has been my primary knife for almost a year. The blades it comes with are insanely sharp and durable, as snap off blades go, comparable in quality to the Olfa super hard speed blades, maybe even better.

The body is magnesium which makes it lighter than most metal-bodied knives, but still more than one entirely made of plastic.

I barely use the extendable spine as intended. sometimes I use it to trace marks onto walls - leaves a light gray mark, pretty sure that piece is aluminum.

It's nice that it comes apart for cleaning as all auto-lock snap off knives eventually gunk up. So far, I have had to maintain it less than comparable Olfa knives, but opening for blade change is slower than say an Olfa LA-X— something to consider if that's part of your workflow.

I used a $2 plastic knife for over a decade, and I've had many ~$12 Olfas, which are ubiquitous in my trade, walk off on a job. So far, this one has always come back to me. It is indeed very comfortable in my hands.

At $23, it's hard to justify its utility vs other premium knives by Olfa, tajima, sdi, hultafors, etc., but it's the only knife like it. Some people swear by their folders and don't blink at spending $50, $100, or more on an edc knife.

It comes down to personal preference.

The open and close of this knife is more reliable and fairly quiet compared to others. The all plastic-bodied knives have more play in the blade and cannot bear the stress of cutting into wood, mdf, hardboard, carpet etc without the blade gradually digging out the spine of the knife body. This knife doesn't fly apart when dropped, as plastic knives often do, and you can use the body for light prying or making creases in cardboard, without melting the knife body from the friction. The blades it comes with are premium and last me as long as a 10 pack of cheap blades. Of course, no blade will stand up to being dragged on the ground.

There are plenty of decent $5-10 knives with a metal sleeve to hold the blade. I wouldn't say this offers anything over those in terms of bang for your buck.

I have this one and like it. I use it throughout the day. It's probably my favorite snap off knife, but I don't have two, and that's because it costs twice as much as my other favorite knives.

Nice. And yes I see now, that this can be more stiff less flexible if the application calls for it.

Probably in that it won't flex to the point where it's ready to snap if it encounters resistance.

This isn't something you need unless you're going to use it often enough to recoup the investment. If you're looking for a box cutter to get the Amazon boxes ready for weekly recycling, stick to the HF cutters.

I prefer a canary cutter for boxes. Safer and I can saw through thick boxes where a blade would tend to catch or bind.

Sorry, I can't love this "deal". This is no better then most utility knifes. In fact I've got the all metal dewalt one from HD for $8 and it's just as good if not better than this. In fact for $17 you can get this bundle that includes the larger size as well. Both have metal frames and you're still $5 cheaper than the Knipex. Don't get me wrong, I love Knipex hand tools, but in this case, their name isn't worth the cost.

Is the blade retainer piece plastic or some sort of powder coated metal? Wondering how that piece will hold up over time vs my other snap off cutters that ride in a metal slide with no retainer.

Over-engineered or just brand name markup? 🤔

That depends on your engineering standards.
