More than enough for the M1 and hence more than enough for the M2 unless you are editing Movies on Final Cut Pro.

It's not enough. If thats the case then theres no reason to spend over 1k to browse YouTube. Any laptop can do just fine.

I'm assuming by your comment you've never used an m1 or m2 Mac.

You assume wrong. I have the mac mini.
I just don't understand how people can justify spending 300 dollars more for just 200 gigs more of storage. When the base model was on sale not too long ago
Your original comment is simply '8GB of ram" so you should keep your replies aligned with that rather than deviating to an attempt at a different argument.

I have the M1 Air 8GB (and multiple friends with similar) and have never needed additional ram. Honestly...I would recommend getting the original M1 Air as it's a great computer and I see no need for the M2 outside of professionals.

I agree with you that the architecture of the M processors are much more efficient than Intel chips. Most people still don't grasp it's a complete game changer.

There's an abundant amount of tests and videos out there showing how well 8GB of RAM performs using common everyday tasks for most people. Even using 100+ browser tabs, etc. with 10+ applications open and going, there's not an issue. M chip and 8GB handles it like a champ.

But certainly going back a couple years on numerous SD threads, this continues to be debated on whether the average person needs 8GB or 16GB with M chips. Somehow the crowd who subscribes to the 16GB camp seems to drown out the 8GB more than enough for common user, crowd. 🤷 ♂️

Its 8gb, its not enough. Sure it may run fine but the memory swaps to the disk will cause faster wear and tear with your disk.
The fact that people are letting apple charge them for the same specs as the m1 few years ago is beyond me.

$1179 for M2 with 16GB of Ram with the EDU pricing from apple downside is 256GB storage. B&H Photo also has it for $1250 no need for student

And most laptops do fine. You can buy a chromebook for a lot less. The point is that the OS is not Memory hungry like WindBlows. I am yet to hit anywhere close to that limit with many apps open and Garageband Running with a DAC. The only time you need more is when you use a GPU/CPU hungry app like Final Cut Pro. At that point you are better off running a desktop with Ethernet anyways.

We can agree to disagree but 8GB is more than enough for most MAC users,

Everyone tells me I can't do webdev in Chrome, personal browsing in Safari, and watch a YouTube video all at the same time on an M1 with 8GB, and yet, I've been doing it for two years with zero issues. Funny that.

I also bought it for $750 on a Best Buy student promo (no verification required) and I can sell it, used in good condition, for $600 on Swappa instantly. I'm sorry, but if you can't see why that isn't a great use case and value, you're blinded by fanboyism.

Does costco do price adjustments? I bought it for $1,449 less $150 discount two weeks ago before original price was drop to $1,349 with release of the 15 inch.
