Small but still designed to look like a gas car with too much high blocky hood length and almost no frunk utilization.
Polestar and Volvo could step away from traditional gas car design language. For this car you have a pointless for function long hood. You suffer inside because of that misplaced priority with the unnecessary limitation of back seat legroom and less wheelbase. An MG4 is the car to compare for current design of an ev. Good rear legroom. It's got a 2705mm wheelbase vs. 2650mm for this Volvo. 2 inches right there. 4287mm length vs. 4233mm for the EX30. The difference shows in the back door dimension.

Still not too late to cancel your Model 3 order if you FOMO'd into that. This Volvo is worth the wait and wipes the floor of Tesla for less money with much better quality.

…are we looking at the same car? Volvo makes cheap cars as well as luxurious ones. This is like an a-class Mercedes. The dashboard is hard plastic. Rear window switches aren't even a thing (have to push a separate button to toggle) and it's made in china, which may be good or not (either way it's not made in Sweden/Europe like most Volvos). It's a cheap car and one I'm interested in (because I want a very small crossover) but let's be honest about what this is. It's a better looking faster charging Chevy bolt, with arguably a cheaper interior.

Tesla doesn't make a car near this size. Barely anyone does. Which is why I like it. But people should realize what this is and what it isn't.

I have no doubt this will be much better built than any Tesla, but this car looks way smaller than a Model 3 or Y. Looks to be at least a full size class lower than midsize.
I'm very new to cars and considering an electric or hybrid. Can you elaborate on why this build would be better than Tesla? Size aside. Thanks!

I looked at all the EVs. Luxury automakers (Mercedes/Porsche) are better built, but usually with worse range/charging speed/charging network/slower and far far far more expensive.

Volvos I tried were very nice, but horrible range and much more expensive than this (basically E-class vs this car which I think is like A-class or Toyota Camry territory).

I went with a model Y because it was by far the cheapest EV with 300+ miles of range and a hatch (50k, ~40k after incentives). Tesla is not a luxury automaker, and aren't priced like luxury automakers. They're "premium" so similar to Acura etc. but have by far the best technology. All the other cars we looked at had clunky slow apps that weren't very capable. Tesla is unmatched in this regard (although I think CarPlay is fantastic, you still need to have a separate app to check level of charge, turn on climate control, schedule departure times etc.)

Don't expect better quality from this Volvo, expect a better looking, faster charging Chevy Bolt. Just like Tesla this is "decontented" aka stripped of buttons, but to an even bigger extent. Way more hard plastic and piano black too. And they even skimped on the center screen which is what annoys me most about my Tesla. Still might lease one as a second vehicle though.

If you want the Volvo that beats the pants off Tesla it certainly should, its 20k more (for the one with good sound system and pano roof like the Tesla and has crappy range as it was their early EV efforts).

Was really interested in the Volvo electric. Car looks great but with no physical knobs and a tablet. I am hesitant. I would need to test drive.

It is one of reasons i haven't gotten a Tesla.
This is how I felt about phones without physical keyboards, but here we are.

They didn't.... Geely made this and it's Volvo rebadge of a car already sold by 2 other companies (Zeeker and Smart)

That's like calling Apple products Chinese since they are mostly built in China.

Since Tesla doesn't use a dealer network, how do repairs work? Do they still send someone to you?

How does repair work after an accident? Can regular body shops source the parts needed to repair it?

Volvo is currently owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, a Chinese company that owns over 15 other vehicle makers.

Volvo Cars was sold to Geely in 2010 and was publicly listed on the Nasdaq Stockholm stock exchange in 2021, but Geely still retains majority ownership.

EV is the biggest scam of this time and age. The electricity is mostly originated from coal/natural gas electricity, and the production and recycling of car batteries are mostly an environmental disaster.
Nonsense. Even when the electricity is generated by coal, an EV still emits a small fraction of the carbon that an ICE vehicle does.

Probably better to ask this in a Tesla thread (and certainly better if you want further discussion) but short answer is:

Tesla has their own showroom and service centers- directly owned and operated rather than franchised like a dealer... they've got 1000 of them worldwide, with hundreds in the US.

They ALSO have a mobile service fleet that'll come to your house for work that doesn't require a vehicle lift (which is most stuff really) and they've got almost 2000 of those.

For body work you've got all those service centers, plus a slew of third-party options including ones Tesla certifies, or just any old body shop if you prefer- all of which can apply to order parts from Tesla. The only difference is only the Tesla-approved 3rd party places can do structural repair, the non-approved ones can only do light collision work (replacing a bumper or a door or whatever)

Why I see so many Tesla haters ?

This is needs to be mentioned as well in the body or subject of this deal by the OP that this is the smallest of their SUVs, $500 deposit, a year wait time, Gen 1 ( possibly too many recalls, performance issues and what not ... see Lucid and Rivian, plagued by issues issues and more issues ) and no final price is provided.
Because Musk.

Volvos are still made in Sweden, the XC60, XC90, and V90. S60 and EX90 will be in USA. Belgium still makes V60, C40 and XC40, I believe. But yes, not _all_ Volvos are made in Sweden. There is additional XC60 capacity in China and most smaller vehicles are going to be made there.

Not everyone needs a large suv....
...although why a compact suv IS a bit crazy, like asking for a tiny truck.

But Mazda CX-3 manages to sell, so....
you say that, but the maverick sells like crazy and that's a tiny truck there's a big distinction between what people need, and what people want. apparently some cars just hit the nail right on the head, compact, crossovers, and tiny trucks.

I work at an auto dealership as a mechanic we just got an a trade-in vehicle, which was a Volvo S90 in the country of origin was China. Quality would look good though I couldn't tell if it was from China only the Vin told me.
