Small but still designed to look like a gas car with too much high blocky hood length and almost no frunk utilization.
Polestar and Volvo could step away from traditional gas car design language. For this car you have a pointless for function long hood. You suffer inside because of that misplaced priority with the unnecessary limitation of back seat legroom and less wheelbase. An MG4 is the car to compare for current design of an ev. Good rear legroom. It's got a 2705mm wheelbase vs. 2650mm for this Volvo. 2 inches right there. 4287mm length vs. 4233mm for the EX30. The difference shows in the back door dimension.

Still not too late to cancel your Model 3 order if you FOMO'd into that. This Volvo is worth the wait and wipes the floor of Tesla for less money with much better quality.

Have you ever test drive a Tesla Model 3 or Y ?
Terrible vehicles...also nothing but middle screen. not backup tire !
Test drive other brand EVs, all feels are much better, more controls with backup tire at least
Lol, might want to take a look at this car's interior before lauding its superiority (Hint: it also doesn't have a gauge cluster). I wish it did, and I wish Tesla did, but that's the way cars are going these days. Most people don't car so expect it to become as ubiquitous as touchscreen only car interfaces.

That is not entirely accurate. Volvos are still designed, and some of them, built, in Sweden. Some are also built in the US. And a few are now also built in China.
You seem to suggest they're all still designed in Sweden. That isn't true, and it's certainly not true of this Volvo- this one is both designed and built in China. See again the fact it's already being sold under two other car names.

Half of your favorite Teslas are made in China.
0 Teslas sold in the US are made in China. (and 0 on the market anywhere were designed there).

Can someone explain what the lease buyout charge and monthly fee would be I want to know before sending $500 to reserve
Since the car isn't actually for sale until 2024, and your final price will be determined by your dealer, and no lease terms are available on a car not actually for sale and with no final price yet..... no, nobody can explain that.

I don't know why I just looked up all these, but I did. It's a couple inches less tall and about a foot to foot and a half shorter than the other midsize gasoline SUVs on the market, and is positioned closer to the compact SUVs like the Kia Soul, Jeep Wrangler/Renegade and Mazda CX3. Good for maneuvering, less so for loading up with lumber or paddleboards.

Values in Freedom Units (inches)
Code:
EX30 167L x 72W x 61H

CRV 185L x 74W x 66H
HRV 180L x 72W x 63H
RAV4 181L x 73W x 67H
Escape 180L x 72W x 63H
Rogue 180 L x 72W x 63H
CX-5 180L x 73W x 66H
GLA 174L x 71W x ??H

Soul 165L x 71W x 63H
Renegade 166L x 74W x ??H
Wrangler 167L x 74H x ??H (2D version)
CX3 169L x 70W x ??H
Excellent info but we have to keep in mind the hood of Volvo and other EVs is 10" or so shorter than a similar ICE suv. So, a lot of the "extra" length of an ICE suv is going to be the under the hood, which doesn't translate to usable space. Just something to keep in mind when comparing.

Now that GM and Ford are going to Tesla's NACS, I would never buy a car that uses CCS from this point going forward. GM and Ford's announcement to use the Tesla charging standard just hammered the last 2 nails in the CCS coffin.

If Volvo uses CCS, and doesn't immediately switch this model to NACS like Tesla, GM, and Ford. Then this car is a hard pass for North America.

Unless you have an empty house and dont use any electricity other than to charge your EV, that plan will end up more expensive because most of the day is peak rate and the peak rate is VERY high.
I pay peak rate only between 4-9. its also more expensive between 3-4 and 9-12 at night. But rest of the day is lower and my family optimize doing laundry or dishwasher also between those hourse. I am happy with my electricity bill with this arrangement. i have a large single family home(2400+ sqlft) and i have 6 people living in my home. So its neither empty nor we are light users.

It's based on Geely's Zeekr X which goes for $27k to $33k USD in China but it has way more features than the Volvo EX30 including motorized door, a 24" HUD, motorized center/passenger screen, middle console fridge/heater that is removable as a cooler, zero gravity passenger chair (like a captain's chair w/out arm rest), and fold-up rear seats to give more floor room (for pets).

I would totally pay $35k for the Zeekr dual motor instead of $42k for the Volvo EX30 dual motor but I think the Volvo premium is for its exterior and interior design and infotainment/safety features. Chinese infotainment systems still look dated. Same architecture as the Lotus Eletre (900HP). Yes, Geely bought Lotus in 2017.

Geely's Sustainable Experience Architecture is brand new and shared by three vehicles: Smart 1, Zeekr X and Volvo EX30.

Zeekr was founded by Geely in 2021. The SEA platform was designed by Zeekr Studio in Gothenburg, Sweden, also home of Volvo. Development was under Geely's president of global design, formerly with Bentley, Audi and Daimler.

Smart 1 is a venture between Mercedes-Geely and first rolled out of the factory in China in June 2022. It will not be sold in the United States.

The Zeeker X and Volvo EX30 will be sold in the US and are being built in China. The first Zeekr X vehicle rolled off the assembly line just 4 days ago. The Volvo EX30 will release in early 2024.

The Smart 1 and Zeekr X are called compact crossovers. Unclear why the Volvo EX30 is called an SUV in this thread. The interior and exterior of the three cars were designed separately and don't look much alike beyond size and crossover shape.

I genuinely don't understand the excitement with this Geely. A lot of wild speculation for a brand thats had a pretty rocky go at their mild EVs.

Batter pack is low (69kwh) this can't be comparable with Tesla as all battery's are not same compositions. Tesla basic autopilot itself is worth more than any car.

The specifications are missing charging details. If this car doesn't support NACS then it's a hard pass.

A Model 3 SR is the best bang for your money if you qualify for the full EV rebate.

I've been driving a 2018 LR RWD Model 3 for nearly 5 years now. The cars run fine, a 2023 SR is almost on parity with a 2018 LR RWD minus the 1 sec difference from 0-60, 32A vs 48A charging /170kwh Supercharging, and premium connectivity.

Only major repair I had out of warranty is the PTC Heater. Even then I don't have to worry about getting ripped off at a dealer or mechanic compared to past cars I've owned.

If I were in the market for a new car in the 30-40k range, Model 3 SR hands down. The only maintenance I have been doing is yearly air filter change which is $14 on Amazon for a set of air filters. Optional condenser cleaner which is another $15 for a can.
