hehe. i mean they're close enough together that i can see why this is a trip. its basically just going to be sightseeing, bus, sightseeing, bus for 18 days straight. for people that dont want to plan this can be a good deal, but just know that everything is so cheap there that you can probably chart your own path and be under $2.2k, but you wouldn't know where to go if you dont research.

honestly people it's so cheap over there just go! Bring one bag with the essentials...don't even check luggage. go to the tourist place where ever you fly into and start exploring. A little preplanning is ok to know where is SE Asia you want to go but don't bind yourself to flights and locals unless you absolutely can't miss them. Just go...hopefully with no real end date. You will find your ways around. Once you get to the first touristy area start making friends/see where they've been/listen to experiences/then decide on your itinerary.

Preplanning a SE Asia trip ruins it...go for it/wing it/and enjoy the adventure. This 17 day trip sounds miserable and expensive. Keep in mind a room is $20 and food under $5.

Not really is common.
You will be given separate room, while those traveling with friend/partner will be both in same room.

given the cost, and the risk, so many other places on the planet to visit than this.
UGGG... Have you ever been there? It's one of the cheapest, easiest traveled, most laid back places on earth.

Its a guided tour. Much better if you do it by yourself IMO. Get a backpack (delete the luggage life) and make your own plans. Stay at hostels. Way cheaper than 2299

They are the typical American citizen who is scared to go outside because you know....scams are everywhere.

Yeah... I agree with the "mission" thread here. BKK itself needs a min of 2 weeks IMHO.

When was the last time you were there? There are gorgeous hotels there available for $20/night. Are they on Expedia.com? No...they are just there. They are local hotels that cater to the Europeans that backpack around the world. If you insist on making reservations on a fancy American created website you'll pay 5x as much.

Take, for example, Air Asia. You can hope around the area for about $50 per one way flight. Cheaper if you buy at the counter b/c they discount to fill the flights. Go there and you'd learn. Read all the other comments telling you that you are wrong and delete your comment...because it's wrong.

Yeah, I'm always tempted when I see deals like this to SE Asia, but then I realize the flight is the most expensive portion (can get a deal for maybe $800?) and everything else is very cheap in comparison. It just requires some planning, flexibility, time, and travel confidence. I guess the main value of these tours is paying more to be able to turn the planning part of your brain off while on the trip.
Man...it would SUCK to tell people when and where to go. Every time I've been you'd meet cool people at one place and travel with them for a bit...met a girl from France...chilled with her in Bali for a week. Just wing it. I've even gotten jobs over there to make a little money and chill longer.

Not a bad deal if you can get that price. Flights to Vietnam/Thailand have gone up in past year.
You don't really get to see Thailand though, I think only 1 night (though is option to extend).

That might be fine for those with limited time.
Pack light as: "Some flight options do not include a checked bag" (unless you pay more.

They also have 34 night option starting at $4k. Which isn't a bad deal.

You could do it cheaper on your own but would take some planning and some airfare luck. Having it all setup can be nice.
Been to all of those countries .. if i had to do it again I would just spend ALL my time in Thailand ... what a fricking great country .. great people -- great food .. prices soooo low it was cheaper just to buy clothes almost daily over there than to pack and drag around ... we were getting hour long foot massages for $5 ... I could go on but I would just start to cry ...

If you book THIS trip, you are going to these 3 countries in the WRONG WAY.

I have spent 9 of the last 18 months in South East Asia and it is extremely safe. I traveled all over Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Did not get scammed once. People were fantastic.

The thing you linked to was fraud on the Internet that takes place from these counties. Not crime done to people within the country.

Going back in 17 days. Can't wait. Just incredible food and people and everything is so inexpensive compared to the US.

Flights to anywhere in South East Asia from the US have skyrocketed in the last 6 months. I am about to take my fifth trip to South East Asia in the last 18 months and paying way more than any of the other trips.

Previous with some work I could find a round trip for about $1000. I have applied for Airline credit cards and then canceled to get it down some from the $1000. But the average I had been paying was $1000 USD. But my trip in 16 days is $1500 or 50% more expensive. That was only with spending hours on Google Flights trying to find a reasonable flight. I am retired so the times do not matter a lot to me and therefore have the ultimate in flexibility.

I just love Google Flights for making it possible to find cheap flights. Never seen anything else like it. The only way I could even get a flight for $1500 was by flying to Finland and spending a day there before flying on.

I was able to do something similar on my last trip. I found round trip was far cheaper to Hanoi. So I purchased a separate ticket from BKK to Hanoi and then flew Hanoi to the states. Google Flights makes it pretty easy to work in this manner to piece together a cheap trip. The Airlines are worthless in doing this. Maybe intentionally.

In my five trip I will have gone the Pacific ocean path twice and three times the Atlantic ocean. I do prefer the Pacific ocean route as a little shorter. But it really comes down to flights. There was nothing less than $2000 going the Pacific ocean path.

They key to all this is advertising. People don't seem to understand the way Europe and America work vs. the rest of the world. Many of these amazing places still can be spotty for internet and they certainly don't have web developers who make websites in English.

Take Bali for example. You can get a flight to Bali from Thailand to Bali for less than $100. When I was in Bali I rented a 125cc Yamaha scooter for $7/day and could get gorgeous rooms for $10-$15/night. The key is....YOU'RE NOT GOING TO FIND THEM ON GOOGLE. THEY DON'T HAVE WEBSITES. If they are huge/high budget resorts you will find them but they all with be multiple times more expensive b/c they are catering to rich uEropeans and Americans. You can find absolutely gorgeous small resorts for dirt cheap. We stayed at a bungalow with a pool (Google Bali resort and you will see the quality of place I'm talking about). They would bring us smoothies if we asked. If we wanted food they would cook what we wanted or run into town and get it. They would take us snorkling/or sight seeing/or whatever we asked. We stayed five days. We had no idea how much anything cost we just went with it. When we went to check out they wanted the equivalent of $200 for absolutely everything....for five days. We gave them $500 and they basically freaked out.

Those places exist...but they aren't going to be found on Expedia and Google. Go find them.

Not a good travel agency. They will pick cheap hotels and food. Normally they sell these packages in schools. The discounted prices is good but you get what you pay plus all the planning they do for you.
