Model: WD - easystore 20TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive - Black
Deal History
Deal History includes data from multiple reputable stores, such as Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. The lowest price among stores for a given day is selected as the "Sale Price".
Sale Price does not include sale prices at Amazon unless a deal was posted by a community member.
FWIW the 18 is slightly cheaper than this $16.50/TB at 15.56/TB ( https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-e...Id=6427995 , maybe should be added to this deal making it a BB WD post) but if you need the extra headroom this is a smoking deal. (I prefer easystore vs other external WD drives because you can turn off the spin down timer using the WD utilities.) It's truly nice that drive supply chains seem to be back to normal.
Now off to convince myself I don't need either the 18TB (matches last black Friday's price) or this 20 (lowest price ever from BB I think?)
Do we trust this enough for 20TB of data? Thats a lot of lose if anything goes wrong... I would get at least 2 of these unless you are storing banal crap in there.

Any long term data on its reliability?
Why wouldn't we? We've been trusting WD for... 20+ years?

I think this started with a thought experiment from Linus Tech Tips where Linus and his wife were talking about how much it would suck if one of these drives fails.
Like even if you have two copies in RAID or something and one disk fails, you are now biting your teeth for over twenty four hours hoping the other (sole) disk doesn't fail while you copy over your data to maintain redundancy. The sheer amount of data in a single 20 TB data means it will take over a day to create a backup of a full disk.
I think you are still good to go if you have the 3-2-1 strategy.
The extra work will still suck and you will still need spares handy but you will be ok I think?

Actually regardless of the fact that we has been one of the better companies in this niche, they have had models that did fail and people did complain, every company does.
So this is clearly not a shot at wd but more on the process of backing up time of data into one location.
FYI I've had a raid setup while one failed, 2 were ok still, and while I was waiting on the replacement the second since failed so I lost everything, all 3 wd drives. It happens.

Exactly as I started to the other guy, that's right. It happens. Just making sure this particular drive doesn't have some history of that... In this case of course, no news is great news. I ask here because I know there are many here that are in many more hours of IT work per week and keep up on tech everyday than I do so pretty sure if there's something wrong someone will say something.
I currently have an 8GB almost full and have had it for a few years now and nervous if I should swap it out at least get another drive to back that up.
Is this deal dead? It's not coming up at $330.00 for 20 TB EasyStore at BB, it shows $379.00. While the 18 TB at BB is $279.00. I see Amazon has a 22 TB Elements for $379.00.
