This is a direct drive trainer, which is about as noisy as your Echelon

Didn't know that. Just assumed that since it is only marketed for 8, 9, 10, 11 speed, it wasn't compatible. Looks like to use it with a SRAM 12 speed, you need to buy the XD/XDR free hub for $69.

If your SRAM 12 speed is designed for their XD/XDR freehub, then yes you need that. They also make 12s compatible with the standard shimano freehub
