Get your new phone up and running first. Look for any issues for a week.
Do a factory reset on your old phone. take a picture of the screen with your new phone to show no issues of front and back while on. In case Samsung employee tries to pull a fast one on you.
Turn your old phone off and wrap it up. You can dop off at any Fedex drop off location or find a Dollar General store. They will scan the package and send a receipt notice via text to your phone. Samsung will receive a couple business days later and let you know they receive. Few more days until they get a chance to review and ok the trade-in.

If you do plan to upgrade, you are not going to sell that Note 9 for as much as the trade value.
Your phone is past any upgrades. And, depending on what you do, it may be starting to lag.
But...it was a great phone in the day and can still function as a very good phone today...for many tasks.
It cant do 5G however....and you would need to check as I am not sure....can it do Wifi 6?
It does still have the ability to add a storage card.
But, if you have not changed the battery, you are definitely due.
If you are not planning on doing it yourself, you might want to look into that cost.
If you subtract the cost of a battery swap, it starts to make this price a little better.
