No free memory upgrade to 512gb. With regular offer at 512GB free upgrade, it is $427 with education discount comparing to $449, hence not good deal for 512GB version. But good deal for 256GB.

The biggest upgrade is the 8gen2. I own both s22u and s23u, the s22u is constantly a hot potato while s23u is at most warm under heavy load. Other than the processor, the battery life is a huge improvement. At $200 difference probally it makes sense to upgrade but not over that.

They ship you your new phone with packing material. Some soft sheeting and a lot of cardboard that is long, shredded like a pair of 80s jeans, rolled up on the new phone. A fedex return label will be inside. You will need to tape it to the outside of the box, on top of the original label (or remove the original label and apply new one).

Get your new phone up and running first. Look for any issues for a week.

Do a factory reset on your old phone. take a picture of the screen with your new phone to show no issues of front and back while on. In case Samsung employee tries to pull a fast one on you.

Turn your old phone off and wrap it up. You can dop off at any Fedex drop off location or find a Dollar General store. They will scan the package and send a receipt notice via text to your phone. Samsung will receive a couple business days later and let you know they receive. Few more days until they get a chance to review and ok the trade-in.

Only the part over $750.
What? Say could have sold your Ultra for $500 - the phone cost you $260 + $500 you gave up giving it to Samsung , the $750 is already factored into that $260 so it cost you $760

Thanks that worked!

On another note interestingly noticed the Samsung India website is selling the 256gb version of this phone with 12gb ram while both Samsung USA and Samsung UK is only giving 8gb!

I don't think it's worth dropping down in storage and 4 gigs of less ram. To save 1 sex of loading time. My battery still works like a champ. Eeeh

Why would it be worth trading in an S22U 256gb model for the S23U? Aren't they essentially identical but for a slightly faster processor and a bit better battery life?

You can't sell/trade the same phone twice. You sell your S22 for $500 the S23 costs you $500. You trade it in it costs you $250.

What does a "bit better" mean? The cpu also runs cooler which bothers me about the s22u

Also get a new warranty.
and future value when traded or sold. So it ultimately will cost less than $250, possibly nothing.

I agree with you b/c of the enhanced trade in value , that you get more by trade it in versus selling it, But when you trade it in , its costing you $250 cash plus the value of your trade in on the open market - I am not comparing it to buying without a trade, I am comparing to what you are giving up to get the Ultra. You are giving up $250 cash plus a phone worth $500 (guesstimated) on the resale market.

If you just paid $250 for the S23 Ultra then it would cost you $250 , but you are not, you are paying $250 plus giving them your old phone which has an opportunity cost

(assuming s22U has a street value of $500)
Option 1: Buy the s23U , trade in S22U : cost $250 + s22U ($500)
Option 2: Don't buy the s23U , save $250 and keep S22U ($500)
Option 3: Buy s23U without a trade - not a good deal

One main point of the deal is you're getting $750 for the s22u with no hassle of selling it.

And the resale value is going to keep falling.

I feel the s22u has a major defect that makes it not as good as a long term keeper, it runs really hot under load.

My S22U doesn't get warm... Maybe carrier models have bad firmware, or you're using 5G.

For those of you who are looking for case/screen protector for this phone, I bought this and it works well. For $10, you get a clear case, 2 camera covers, and 2 screen protectors.

Alright, I bit. Wavered for a week, read the review on GSMArena, checked SD for Samsung TIV deals in past two years, $250 is OK price (S21U didn't seem to have many good TIV deals, S22U had several, probably because SD 8 Gen 1 was universally panned). GPU and battery improvements over S22U (GSMArena tested the Exynos version, but I don't think SD 8 Gen 1 was much better) in the review is pretty mind-blowing considering how little phones change gen-over-gen nowadays.

I don't think 5% Paypal CB stacked with other sites so I used TCB. $30 pending soon after order.

My unlocked S22U does even on WiFi, but typically only when playing game. I use Perf Z and it hits 40C easily, 42C if I charge (bottom edge glows to warn me when that happens).

At the risk of sounding like a shill I'll share.

For whatever reason my S22 ultra purchased unlocked last year from Samsung started to have battery degradation around month 7 or 8. Not much but progressivly noticable. To the point that I went from getting a day and (sometimes) a quarter worth of battery to about three quarters of a day before needing to charge. And I had tweaked every battery saver option available to get three quarters of a day, including screen resolution and dark display.

I wasn't sure it would be a warranty issue, so that's on me for not looking into it ( and I do wonder what Samsung's criteria there is - if any - to file a battery claim).

In addition, I had in month 13 ( out of warranty again) started experiencing antenna issues that after several diagnostic steps was clearly an internal phone issue.

That's why i traded in a month ago. Yes. The phones are very similar. I think the S23 Ultra has been noticabley smoother overall.

Regarding the battery....' a bit better' ? No. Its significantly better. I can only speak for myself. My phone habits have not changed and I am getting almost two days use before having to charge.

Very happy overall with the S23 Ultra. Hopefully no serious battery degradation this time ( otherwise i will hesitate buying another Samsung). But to be clear if the antenna and battery issues had not happened, I would have kept the S22 Ultra.

Anybody found s23u has inferior picture quality than s22u? I found s23u pictures are more washed out. s22u has brighter pictures. I don't care about the resolution. seriously considering keeping my s22u, and returning s23u..

Same here. I haven't had any major heat issues. Battery ife is decent as well. Also I have 4 samsung oem cases bought through woot for cheap.

Not worth spending additional to upgrade to s23 ultra at this point. There will be more upgrade opportunities later on.

I don't have an s22u in hand , my day to day is an s22+ which I prefer. Was thinking of buying a used s22u which I could get for around $460 to trade in but then this phone would cost be about $700+, not sure if it is worth it
