I strongly recommend getting irons used on eBay. A lot of people use them for a season and sell them. 5 years ago I bought a pair of jpx 900 forged w stiff KBS tour shafts for 400.

This 4 iron in this set is 19 degrees, which is very low and similar to most 3 hybrids. Most players will have trouble elevating a 19 degree iron and will be better suited to a hybrid or 7 wood in that range, but you could sell the 4 iron on eBay and get $100 or so I would expect.

I was fit for 923 hot metal pros and let me tell you, they really do feel like butter like everyone says they do.

I just purchased 923HMP on ebay. Hopefully I will receive before next weekend. I was torn between 225 and the JPX923HMP. I am very excited... what were you hitting prior?

Being fit is an experience everyone needs. I'm sure you can take the standard and have them bent after the fact. But custom is playing towards your game, not bending your game to stock sticks. If you spend this much coin on irons, get fitted. Trust me people, it's worth the time.

I ordered the whole JPX line and only the Forged/Tour felt like butter. The Pro, base, and HL models have a clicky feel but they are so accurate and easy to hit.

Question- if you aren't very good, 95-100 every round. Clearly you have issues you need to correct. Does it make more sense to take lessons to get your swing right first, or get fitted first. My thought- if you get fitted with an incorrect swing they may suggest a certain club, then if you take lessons, you may need another fit as the first ones aren't great for your new swing…

Do you plan on committing on taking lessons in the near future and committing to practice for lowering score?

That's the biggest factor between choosing lessons or being fit, budget wise.

If you're content and want to just got out to play/range every now and then, being fit is more logical. If you do plan on trying to get your scores down and committing time to implementing lessons in your game, getting lessons is much better money spent.
