Whole home surge protector. Prices for these have soared last few years. This is cheaper than the slightly lower FS100 model

These are good to have, especially if you live in a spot where you get surges or brown outs.

It can help protect your electronics, yes, but also remember your expensive appliances. I'm not saying you can't get 240v surge protectors per appliance (expensive), but you may have to replace all of them at the same time in an event. I wanted to buy one because we had a lot of brown outs and surges (less this year, knock on wood) and did research and waited for good deals, but we were able to get one through the local power company for like $12/month.

It is cheaper for me to rent than to buy for two reasons - 1, if you buy, you also gotta worry about install costs on top of the cost of the unit. I don't see labor prices nor labor availability going down in the near future due to personnel shortages and high demand in many sectors (at least in US).
2, if you get a lot of surges, these devices lifespan go down and you could be replacing the unit every 1-3 years. If that's the case, it might be worth renting. If it goes bad (indicator light goes out) they just replace it and I don't have to pay extra.
Renting is a no fuss way to go about it, but it can also be economical. It's worth having, especially in high surge / lightning / brown out areas.

Thats good for 40,000 amp surge.

The Siemens FS140 is good for 140,000 amp, which is for large lighting strikes in the south especially.
