Brushless motors tend to last longer and are more efficient (longer battery life). I own this set and the brushless versions are much better build quality and performance. That being said these would be fine for a hobbyist or homeowner.
All the other posts telling you the advantages of brushless are correct. However, it is worth pointing out that pros used brushed tools for years without a problem.
This seems like a decent brushless option. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwa.../319399874

Great deal. My only gripe is that they're not brushless.

Brushless runs a lot cooler after extended use. You'll definitely appreciate this if you're putting up a fence.

Only the Drill and Driveer are brushless there, from what I can tell, The others are brushed tools.

Milwaukee is a pro grade brand, Ryobi is a homeowner grade brand. Ryobi will be good for most home owners, DIYers, and probably even for someone that does part time handy man type work on the weekend.

Yep. And before that it was corded tools. Before that were manually operated tools.

I suppose everyone needs to decide where on the technology spectrum they want to be.

First, you don't need to be a __

Second, the jump from manual to corded or corded to cordless is a lot bigger leap than from brushed to brushless.

The brushless motor itself might last longer, but the advanced electronics needed to make it run probably won't. Nothing really wrong with brushed except for a slight decrease in efficiency and if you do happen to be using it all day, every day, for several years on end and eventually possibly wear out the brushes, they are usually cheaply replaceable. For example, new brushes [ereplacementparts.com] for the drill in this kit are under $15.
