What is the best thing to buy at CVS with just extra bucks? I have to do $10 and $20 orders. Is it a bad idea to buy anything and return it when I'm feeling better?
Did you ever get a BP Monitor and Oxymeter??

If you haven't gotten a BP Monitor and Oxymeter, you should make those a priority over anything else.

There's nothing super great at CVS this week, at least not from what I've seen so far. There's definitely no easy 'make your money back' kind of options.

Buying something and returning it when you feel better becomes a crap shoot. Now, returns with or without receipts require a DL at most CVS stores. I'm not sure anyone knows for sure how many returns you can do with a DL in a year (all stores, not just CVS), but I've read someone had a problem after 5.

If you return with a receipt, you'll get ecbs back in one lump sum. In other words, if you used 5 different ecbs totalling $20, you won't get those back that way, you'll get one ecb for $20. You'll get no credit back from any crts or coupons.

If you return without a receipt, you'll get your receipt in a money card. The biggest issue with this is you'll only get the lowest value of the item(s) from the last 90 days prior to your return. Well, there's another issue, in that some stores will look at their inventory, and if they can validate they had no record of a purchase of the item in the last 90 days, they can refuse your return. Add to that, some employees don't want to be responsible for a no receipt return and will call the manager on duty to review why you're doing a no return receipt. If you have a really good relationship with your store, you probably won't have to worry about most of these shenanigans.

P.S. Don't shoot me for sharing this information, I am trying to provide you with the information you need to make your decision on what to do.

Thanks for taking the time to write this up.
I should have mentioned about getting the ECB's back on receipt from return. I wonder if the new one expires in a month or maybe sooner?? I have no experience in this.

Thanks S'momma!

It may expire in two weeks, but I don't remember for sure. It's been awhile since I got one.

Why would I shoot you? Your info is awesome as always. I have a lot of extra bucks that I need to spend in a very short period of time. It's over $1000. I want to have everything spent by tomorrow night. I need to go back into the hospital and I won't do it with this hanging over me. All of my cards are non-digital so I don't have any dq's or good crt's to work with. Just the extra bucks.

I got the oximeter when somebody posted the in-store p/u deal but I've never used it. I take my bp and check my heartrate every day at RA. My heartrate dropped down to 24 when I was in the hospital last week. My bp has been pretty low, too. My right foot fell asleep while I was driving on the freeway today. I couldn't feel the gas or brake pedals. I had to coast to a stop on the shoulder. I sat there for a long time and couldn't get enough feeling back to where I could drive again. Finally, I lifted my leg up over my waste and it started to come alive. I've been seeing a neurologist for this. He was going to tell me the results of the test he gave me but they called a code on me during the visit so I never got to find out.

I was a lot better at couponing before my heart attack. Now I'm damaged goods. Most days I have no idea what I'm doing.

Ouch ouch and ouch! Not much good in your situation, I really hate that for you.

If I were in that situation, I would probably spend about half that on things we would use around here and half on things I would return (eventually).

Besides the obvious - toilet paper, paper towels and laundry detergent, I would also pick some of the things available in the section with car products (ie armorall, chamois type cloths, spray and wipe wax). Given your circumstances, I would also look at the first aid aisle and maybe even buy some compression socks (they're supposed to help with circulation in your feet and legs). And generally, they're kind of expensive!

Though ridiculously expensive, if I was trying to spend down that kind of money that quickly, I'd buy all of the canned corn and canned green beans. Here they're like $2.69 a can! I'd probably also buy any of the things in that general area that would keep for 3 - 6 months that we would use (sugar, oil, splenda, tea, coffee).

If you have trick or treaters that will come by your place for Halloween, the bags of Hershey wrapped candies are $3.99 each right now. Not the candy deal of the past, but it would be something to get now that would be useful reasonably soon. An added bonus, the bag I looked at today was good through June 2024.

Almost everything goes on sale periodically at CVS, so buying with the idea to return for a money card is not great. If it were me, I'd probably focus on pricier things that won't expire and would not be replaced by a 'newer' model. Figuring this out within 24 hours is going to be very difficult. The times in the past where I have decided to buy something to return at a future point, I often spent several days scouting the store to pick what I would get before I actually made the purchase.

Maybe you could just spend the next two weeks worth of extracare bucks, with the idea to have someone help you if you're not up to spending the others in a few weeks.

Good luck!

I got Coke 12 packs this evening so now I'm stocked up. I'm already stocked up on detergent and paper. It's way too hot here to buy chocolate. It would never make it home. I hate to buy things with the idea of returning them. On the plus side, I've got a store that will ring me up all day and night if I want to do that. I hate to waste money. I have to shut that part of my brain off. Another complication is RA. They have a special this week where if I do a $25 order I'll get an extra $5 off and $6 back in Bonus Cash. I was getting 2 Softsoap bodywashes and 4 Optic White toothpastes and it was a $5 mm after tax. I might be better off with just letting the extra bucks expire because I can't do both RA and CVS.

Just for curiosity, I looked and there isn't even a thread for this week. Last weeks thread is only one page.

Maybe its best for someone with info to PM you and not post here.
I think that you're right. I'll delete my post and I'll pm you.

I don't know if you read my post about the Wags thread but it had nothing to do with you or the hard work you've done on here for years which is greatly appreciated. Wags deals are heating up and I think that the thread would be better going back to the weekly format. I find myself watching YT videos to figure out what's going on. I hate to do that since so much of the info is wrong or the deals have already been pulled.

So I went to CVS a few minutes ago. I wanted to do a Crest deal on one card and spend $10 on another card that isn't set up for digital coupons. The grace period on the $10 ecb's ends today so I had to get something. The Crest deal was a no go. They were out of the $4.99 paste but had some for 50 cents more. They were completely out of the brushes. If I did the deal with what they had it would've cost me an extra $4 so I had to pass.

I walked the store twice looking for good deals and clearance. I found $2 coupons for Garnier Fructis shampoo taped on a couple of bottles so I did that. I spent 30 minutes on what else to get and I finally narrowed it down to 80ct Lysol wipes for $6.99 or clearance headphones for $7.99 (50% off). I went with Lysol and got an extra $1 ecb on my receipt. I'm still trying to figure out the math. Garnier should've been $4 after coupons and Lysol was $7 so my total should've been $11 + tax (around a dollar) so let's say $12. I paid with my $10 ecb and $1.35. Is Lysol non-taxable?

Gonna depend on your state. Maybe some aren't charging for healthcare supplies.

I looked it up online and I think that you can write off the cost of the sanitizing wipes but I couldn't find anything about them being tax exempt in California. I know that there's a difference in tax if the ecb is a manual print but this was a regular one so who knows? Who cares? The world is still spinning. Wait, that's my head lol.
