There's nothing super great at CVS this week, at least not from what I've seen so far. There's definitely no easy 'make your money back' kind of options.
Buying something and returning it when you feel better becomes a crap shoot. Now, returns with or without receipts require a DL at most CVS stores. I'm not sure anyone knows for sure how many returns you can do with a DL in a year (all stores, not just CVS), but I've read someone had a problem after 5.
If you return with a receipt, you'll get ecbs back in one lump sum. In other words, if you used 5 different ecbs totalling $20, you won't get those back that way, you'll get one ecb for $20. You'll get no credit back from any crts or coupons.
If you return without a receipt, you'll get your receipt in a money card. The biggest issue with this is you'll only get the lowest value of the item(s) from the last 90 days prior to your return. Well, there's another issue, in that some stores will look at their inventory, and if they can validate they had no record of a purchase of the item in the last 90 days, they can refuse your return. Add to that, some employees don't want to be responsible for a no receipt return and will call the manager on duty to review why you're doing a no return receipt. If you have a really good relationship with your store, you probably won't have to worry about most of these shenanigans.
P.S. Don't shoot me for sharing this information, I am trying to provide you with the information you need to make your decision on what to do.

I should have mentioned about getting the ECB's back on receipt from return. I wonder if the new one expires in a month or maybe sooner?? I have no experience in this.
Thanks S'momma!

I got the oximeter when somebody posted the in-store p/u deal but I've never used it. I take my bp and check my heartrate every day at RA. My heartrate dropped down to 24 when I was in the hospital last week. My bp has been pretty low, too. My right foot fell asleep while I was driving on the freeway today. I couldn't feel the gas or brake pedals. I had to coast to a stop on the shoulder. I sat there for a long time and couldn't get enough feeling back to where I could drive again. Finally, I lifted my leg up over my waste and it started to come alive. I've been seeing a neurologist for this. He was going to tell me the results of the test he gave me but they called a code on me during the visit so I never got to find out.
I was a lot better at couponing before my heart attack. Now I'm damaged goods. Most days I have no idea what I'm doing.

If I were in that situation, I would probably spend about half that on things we would use around here and half on things I would return (eventually).
Besides the obvious - toilet paper, paper towels and laundry detergent, I would also pick some of the things available in the section with car products (ie armorall, chamois type cloths, spray and wipe wax). Given your circumstances, I would also look at the first aid aisle and maybe even buy some compression socks (they're supposed to help with circulation in your feet and legs). And generally, they're kind of expensive!
Though ridiculously expensive, if I was trying to spend down that kind of money that quickly, I'd buy all of the canned corn and canned green beans. Here they're like $2.69 a can! I'd probably also buy any of the things in that general area that would keep for 3 - 6 months that we would use (sugar, oil, splenda, tea, coffee).
If you have trick or treaters that will come by your place for Halloween, the bags of Hershey wrapped candies are $3.99 each right now. Not the candy deal of the past, but it would be something to get now that would be useful reasonably soon. An added bonus, the bag I looked at today was good through June 2024.
Almost everything goes on sale periodically at CVS, so buying with the idea to return for a money card is not great. If it were me, I'd probably focus on pricier things that won't expire and would not be replaced by a 'newer' model. Figuring this out within 24 hours is going to be very difficult. The times in the past where I have decided to buy something to return at a future point, I often spent several days scouting the store to pick what I would get before I actually made the purchase.
Maybe you could just spend the next two weeks worth of extracare bucks, with the idea to have someone help you if you're not up to spending the others in a few weeks.
Good luck!

I walked the store twice looking for good deals and clearance. I found $2 coupons for Garnier Fructis shampoo taped on a couple of bottles so I did that. I spent 30 minutes on what else to get and I finally narrowed it down to 80ct Lysol wipes for $6.99 or clearance headphones for $7.99 (50% off). I went with Lysol and got an extra $1 ecb on my receipt. I'm still trying to figure out the math. Garnier should've been $4 after coupons and Lysol was $7 so my total should've been $11 + tax (around a dollar) so let's say $12. I paid with my $10 ecb and $1.35. Is Lysol non-taxable?
