It's shot up like crazy. It's probably higher than $6.19 right now. My info is from a couple of days ago. It got up to $8 during covid and I can see it getting there again. It has to be impacting businesses. You have to go to work but you don't have to coupon shop at CVS. It might be cheaper to let your ecb's expire than to put gas in your car to drive over there. I'm joking but it's crazy when you have to consider this when doing everyday things.

When the price of gas went up in 2008 or so it really changed how I run errands. My husband and I plan which direction we go and try to get everything done in the same loop. Like if we have to pick up a ship to store item at a certain mall, we will go to a Shoprite in the same direction. It seems obvious but I don't think we really thought about it before gas got expensive. Not sure this is making sense.

I, too, follow the bald eagles in Decorah. The nest site is about an hours drive from my house but I have never been there. My husband has been to the fish hatchery where they used to nest. Not really sure exactly where it is any more since the eagles have made new nests. Did love seeing the Swans use the old nest last year. Did you watch the swans too?

Also, the nice thing about watching the bears is that they become more active about the time the eagles are less so and vice versa,

I think that they have protocols where your oxygen, temp, pulse, and blood pressure have to be above certain levels. I've had codes called on me 3 times now because my pulse dropped below 40 even though I was fine and I told them that it was normal for me. Maybe there's no standard protocol and it's whatever rules your hospital sets. My oxygen was low after my open-heart surgery and they made a big deal out of it. They even sent me home with an oxygen tank that is now a flower pot. I know that if my oxygen was at your level they'd probably call another code on me. They definitely would admit me and there's no way that they would send me home. I don't have COPD so maybe there are different numbers for you.

I talked with my doctor this morning. My plan was to see how I feel at the end of the weekend and if I'm not any better to go to the ER. He wants me to go to the ER now. He's concerned about my shortness of breath and that I'm bleeding. I'm sure that he's right but I'm going to wait until Monday. If I'm not around here for a couple of days next week, that's why.

Randalls is the Texas Vons equivalent, owned by Safeway, now Albertsons. And possibly being combined with Kroger if the feds don't stop them from becoming a monopoly.

I read back a little more. Trying to catch up. During Covid my husband was feeling weak and we just thought he was out of shape or whatever. Then it got really bad and he thought maybe a heart condition so he went to urgent care to get looked at. They took blood and called us that day or the next and said to get to the hospital, he was horribly anemic. Stayed overnight and got tons of blood transfusions. Many tests later they realized he had a hiatal hernia that was huge and causing blood loss. Anyway, he had surgery this spring and is feeling much better. Just thought I'd throw this freak story into the mix.
I'm glad he got his surgery timely.

And an fyi, for those who think we should have medicine like Canada or the UK, I will share that my childhood friend's husband has been waiting six months in the UK for surgery on his hiatal hernia that is large and painful.

It makes me appreciate that we have become accustomed to paying for medical coverage to get issues taken care of timely. I don't love paying for it, but it seems that even the uninsured here in the US are getting their issues taken care of more quickly than my friends in the UK.

This is what we should all be doing. There was a time when gas was creeping up to the point that there were days when I quit asking for things in our Buy Nothing group if the folks didn't live right off the streets I was driving down anyway, unless the item had some 'real' worth to me.

I know people from Vons and Ralphs and they all think that it's a done deal. I really hope not. It will be horrible for us. Less competition = higher prices and poorer service.

I agree that reading test results and not always understanding them (since we're not doctors) can be anxiety causing. Our health clinic has started putting the following message on the emails sent out when a new test result is available to review: 'You have a new test result in MyChart. Please note that this test result is released immediately to MyChart. This means that you may be viewing your test results before your provider has had an opportunity to review them. Your care team will reach out to discuss any abnormal results. You may choose to view your results now or wait for your care team to respond.' When I first saw this appear I wondered if it had to do with the fact they were getting too many calls from upset folks upon looking at their test results.

I tend to disagree but I respect your opinion as well. I know many folks that have waited six months or longer for non-emergency surgeries, procedures, etc., here in the US. I live in 'the med city' (where Mayo Clinic is located) and long waits tend to be the norm. I wouldn't even consider going to the ER there - many folks walk out after waiting more than a day to be seen. It often depends on where one lives, population, number of doctors, case load, etc. While I have no problem paying for health care and insurance and even taxes for that matter (everyone, everywhere pays one way or the other), my wish is that everyone could be treated the same and know what things are going to cost before having them done. I often hear a commercial for a group that helps those 'get out of'' a time share contract and it states that owning a time share is like giving someone a blank check forever. Except for the forever part, this is what I feel our health care industry is. I don't know anyone that knows up front what things are going to cost until the get the bill and even then it often doesn't make sense. I don't buy anything else like that, why should our health care be this way? Just my two cents.

Ok, now for the serious reply. My medical bills are over a million dollars this year and I'm a hopeless case. Maybe they can keep me alive for another 5 years but my quality of life will be zero. I feel like the money they spent on me would be better spent on someone younger who has their whole life in front of them and can get better. If you try to say this to your doctor, they'll take you away on suicide watch. I wouldn't want someone to tell me that I can't have treatment but I'd like to be able to say when it's time to stop and to let whatever happens happen.
