They used to be around 14 cents a tab on a front page deal but there haven't been any of those in a while. This is about 18 cents.

Could this "quantum" variant be a better deal? Nearly the same price per pac.

IMO the best deal is to use the Great Value dishwasher powder from Walmart which is around $6.30 for a 75oz box. It works great and I use about 1 1/4 oz per load, which is 60 loads. I know people like the pacs but I find the powder works just as well.

The Sam's club brand and Costco brand pods are both well regarded by consumer reports and they're around 11 cents a pack. That's my baseline.

If you have a old or cheap dishwasher then expensive detergent may work better, but if you have a decent dishwasher the house brand packs clean just fine.

Use them exclusively for the past 4 months. Work fine. Zero complaints. My dishwasher is about 2yrs old and also well water.

Does Sam's still have their house brand detergent packs? I haven't been able to find them at all lately

Sam's has had the Finish Quantum pods as cheap as 15-16c per pod in a 100 pack. Non-sale price was around 18c, and currently it's showing as 20c per pod. Not a bad deal, but not great. I'd consider this if I were completely out and needed pods asap. Don't know how well these clean compared to Quantum, but the Quantum's are comparable to Cascade Platinum in my experience.

I used to be a big powder/liquid guy but all dishwashers under like 600 dollar today seem to have plastic detergent doors that either slide up or flip close and to replace those mechanisms is like removing the whole door. Liquid detergent gunked up my door so much and that was using under the amount needed that I had to use a toothbrush to clean the caked on stuff just for it to open and close right. Took like 20 minutes too of cleaning. Pacs for me for life!

Those brands are just powder wrapped in a little dissolvable bag. Might as well just get powder, which is cheaper.

The more advanced packs have added chemicals for baked on messes, whitening, etc. I used to think that the separate components were just a gimmick, but a dishwasher expert told me that there are two reasons to keep the various chemicals separate. First, certain chemicals don't mix well. For example, bleach will destroy the enzymes (lipase for fat, amylase for starches, and protease for proteins). And second, the more advanced packs have components that that are released at different stages in the wash cycle. Chemicals that are released later have a thicker membrane that dissolves slower.

I use the Dollar Tree detergent for everyday messes but take out the advanced tabs when I have tough messes like baked on foods. Yes, Dollar Tree sells a box of dishwashing powder for only $1.25. I used to use Cascade when the box was only $3.95 on sale. My biggest complaint with powders is that they don't always dissolve. Sometimes, a dried caked mess remains in the detergent dispenser. I've never used gel but generally speaking, powder is more powerful than gel. That's because you can't mix certain chemicals. e.g. bleach destroys the enzymes. With powder, the dry chemicals can mix without any interactions.

Is there a big difference between these and Kirkland/Costco brand ones which are still cheaper than this deal? I feel like detergent is detergent…

I have not used sams brand but I did not like Costco brand pods. For whatever reason I do not think Kirkland brand dishwashing products clean well.
