The only problem with these easy igniting torches is that they are so fun to play with. You'll burn through half the gas just playing.

If you plan on brazing and soldering with it, MAPP gas heats things up faster than propane.

If you've got a lot to do, then this one shoots a better flame:

When I worked in home construction most plumbers used a torch like this with a flint igniter:

recent reviews are absolutely horrible. no quality control on a gas torch ignitor? even on bernzomatic's website this model get pummeled with bad reviews. stick with the TS4000T or TS8000T versions. might cost a lot more but can't go wrong with those and will last forever.

I just need it to burn off carbon build up on a echo string trimmer. Will see if it works.

Built-in strikers are fidget spinners for adults. Buy one of the trigger models if you want to play I AM FIRE MAN. Or just buy the strikerless model, a separate striker, and flints for it too.

Maybe one day you'll want a swirl torch with a hose, use the money you saved on that one.

I spent way too much money on one of these from Lowes and within 2-3 uses the ignitor stopped working. Avoid

I think that's unusual. I've struck mine thousands of times and it sits in un-acclimatized conditions.

EDIT: Nevermind. I've got the model below.

If the problem is the igniter, can't you just light it with a match like I watched my father do many time 60 years ago when he worked on copper pipes and melted lead tire weights to make fishing sinkers?

You could, but then you'd be so much better off just starting that way by grabbing one with a small swiveling head. The self-igniters are cumbersome and lack manoeuvrability compared to the striker lit ones.

A torch like this makes it so you don't have to hold the bottle at such weird angles to work.
