All the payment plans from AT&T and Verizon are now 36 months. Used to be 30.

How often do you switch cellular carriers?

I've been with AT&T for a dozen+ years, I'm not going anywhere. 36 months isn't an issue.

I've saved $1,000s of dollars by being in this so called "detention" and will continue to save money this way.

It makes a lot more sense to save $500 than to spend it for no reason...

I am more concerned about upgrading phone than switching careers. I change phone every 2 years.
Good that it is working out for you

36 months is 3 years. It's not that long if you don't switch carriers often. Most phones these days last 4-5 years. By the time your next upgrade rolls around the retention payments should be long over already.

Nope. I've been with AT&T for almost 20 years. When the iPhone 15 comes out I'll be switching to another carrier that only spreads out credits for 24 months. 36 months is just too long. The batteries on iPhones act up after 2 years.
