I bought these exact cans in 2015 and they're going strong. They're fantastic, and this is a solid price (I paid $170).

Just make sure you have a receiver or amplifier able to power them.

Also, naturally they have aggressive treble. I use Equalizer APO + the Peace GUI to chill them out a bit and then they sound fantastic. If anybody needs my equalization settings PM me.

Isn't this cheaper than the 770? (Yes, open-back vs closed)

How does this fare with the HD6xx?

Seems pretty close to even. Each one having a few decimal points over the other depending on category. I have the 6XX and got them with a mass drop coupon and really like them. I've never tried the other so I can only speak on the 6XX. The bass isn't boomy but it sounds really good to me depending on who or what you listen to. I heard rap wasn't good in them but someone like schoolboy q sounds really good in them.

I have the 600 ohm version that I got many years ago.. so amazing. Good bass, yet totally airy and transparent. For me, a new level of enjoyment. I paid way more than this but they were worth it to me. I still use and abuse them all the time.

Had to check my Amazon order. Mine are going on 10 years next month.

Comfortable and have held up fantastic. I am no audiophile but they sound fantastic to me. Only con is full blast they "leak" alot of sound so sig. other might complain if in same room.

These headphones sound horrible. Thin bass with lots of treble. I had one in the past and got rid of them after an hour of listening.
The headphone can be a bit dry because they are designed for professional audio work. However, I was able to get a fuller body by using a traditional Class A amplifier. The bass mid treble doesn't bother much as DC powered amps.

Maybe. I have never enjoyed headphones or amps that sound flat or analytical. It was nice at first but will start to feel fatiguing after awhile.

these are for mixing / mastering work and supposed to be dry and flat. If it sounds horrible or unpleasant, it supposed to be, because these are not for enjoying music. Rather, clarity/tendency should be the matter when you buy these types of headphones.

i got the dt770s and had to take them apart and add some paper towel or the treble made my ears bleed.

I use them with a sonata bhd and now with the treble mod and some eq adjustments they sound amazing.

The dt990 pro's and the hifiman he400se were my first step into the non-consumer grade of headphones. They will definitely need an amp to get any decent sound. These do have a bit of excess treble, but I do prefer a v shape sound and have no problem using an eq to taylor the sound to my liking. I do recommend the he400se over these if you are looking in this price range and are a bit of a basshead, but the beyers are definitely more comfortable and have a more of a quality feel then the hifimans. I still highly recommend these as a first step into the headphone rabbit hole.

I'm using an old Yamaha receiver that drives them just fine. Wouldn't know what to recommend in terms of newer equipment.

I did try some ATs years ago, can't remember the model, but personally I hated them. They were way too tight for my head, the bass was boomy and grating, and in terms of sound I find the 990s way less muddy/higher fidelity.

To the person saying the DT 990s have too much treble, yes I agree, but if you use equalizing software it really unlocks their potential, which is excellent, clear sound with a decent amount of bass. I don't like the V shape much either but you aren't locked in to that, and the 990s are fantastic even if you alter their natural EQ.

For a more balanced natural EQ you could always go for Sennheisers, though this is a solid deal and as much as I like my Sennheisers, they aren't as analytical in their sound from what I can tell. Both are nice cans for different things though.
