These are nice flash units...however I'd suggest holding out for the Li-Ion ones as they AA units eat batteries and go dead at the worst time. You'll pay more for the rechargeable ones but the battery lasts MUCH longer.

Has that been signaled as something that will be made? If so, it's news to me. Manufacturers have never not had an opportunity to design and produce external flash units with internal, rechargeable batteries, so I feel like if they wanted to, they'd already done so.

In any case, I don't believe flashes being powered by AA is much of a hassle as you make it sound. I have been using Eneloop AA batteries and keep extras in my bag. And if, for some reason, I don't have them on hand, it's very feasible to buy generic ones at a local 7/11 or something.

On the other hand, every time the batteries for my video LED ran out, I was completely screwed because the battery was internal.

I've owned both versions of this flash the AA and Li-Ion and MUCH prefer the rechargeable option as you get WAY more shots with the rechargeable version in my experience. That said, I've not tried the Eneloop batteries but I can't imagine them being better. In any case, here's the rechargeable version [adorama.com]

The positive and negative of the batteries...

Sure the lithium will give you faster recycle time and way more shots. Also then you are stuck with the lithium packs....their newest version I'm sure will be around for a while...but the older lithium pack version is being discontinued. A new Lithium pack will cost $125

The double AA version will be powered for decades to come and if your AA rechargeable die out...then you buy a new set for $8.

I have both versions of the flash...you can't beat this price point.
If you aren't shooting something heavy flash with need of shaving a second off of your recycle time like a wedding photographer might need..then the AA version is a great intro into the system

For me, these plus an external battery pack are the best of both worlds. They are compatible with cables/packs made for Canon flashes. Pick up a cheap, used Flashpoint BP-960 and the B&H Bolt cable to connect it to this. The UI of the flash runs off the internal AAs, but the capacitors get recharged from the external battery pack. Ridiculous low recycle times and the battery lasts for an insane amount of time. When you want to go light, leave the pack behind and just use the AAs.
