Google "Samsung EVO 870 failures" before gambling your data on it. My 2 TB just died. It was only one and a half years old and was used for typical home PC stuff.

I bet those other drives don't have any DRAM, that's why they're cheaper.

Didn't need another ssd, but couldn't resist for under $50 shipped after $5 BB certificate about to expire.

Is this worth for an old console or better off with a cheaper SSD?
Planning on using on my PS3 and another on a WII U (external enclosure-USB 2.0 max)
Might be a waste as won't ever reach full speed.

Older consoles don't take full advantage of SSDs, and the only ones worth using them on are probably Xbox One and PS4. Anything older simply doesn't have the necessary IO bandwidth to support SSD speeds,

You're not wrong, but I still trust an SSD over HDD for long-term use, especially if it's just reading your game library on there and not constantly updating/writing data. Perfect case for an older system like PS3.

Breathes new life into a PS4 Pro for those still using the original hard drive.

Does anyone know/guess when Samsung will replace the 870 evo? I know there were complaints on 4TB ones, and they've had lots of discounts like this.

For a PS3, the biggest benefit will be for digital games that you've installed directly onto the drive. Load times for physical games will be bottlenecked by the read speed of the built in BluRay drive.

Higher cost per TB than nvme, even the 970 Evo Plus.
Necessary for legacy systems, but still ridiculous.

Is there any reason for them to? These drives pretty much max out the performance you're going to get on a SATA drive, and most new offerings will probably focus on NVME.

Getting warmer Samsung. After decades of keeping SSDs at 1-2TB and jacking up prices ever higher the competition is finally forcing you down a peg.

Teamgroup and Silicon Power 1TB are now at $31 so you still need to up your game. Both produce decent SSDs. At this price you are still 61% more expensive than your competitors.
