Dual hose is significantly more efficient; this is a frequent question. It's not a question of "sucking hot air back in," the much bigger difference is that single hose units take some of the just-cooled air out of the room and throw it outside, which is extremely wasteful. Dual hose units, even bad ones, keep the conditioned air inside and the unconditioned air outside.
I think this is the exact same as the $350 refurbished Toshiba in woot that's in and out of stock every other day. Nice machine and $100 extra for the extra Costco warranty and return policy isn't bad. I've only had my Toshiba for a week but it's very nice.
I had the same problem, it's because the unit is sensing that the temp is met due to smaller room or air flows right back to the unit. To fix this, use the 'follow me' feature on the remote. This detects the remote's temp, not the unit. Place the remote at the other corner but should still be pointed to the unit. The other problem for me is the swing mode, most of the swing time blows the air into the unit lol. I don't know what the engineers were thinking about the design.
It cools and heats really well. Need to drain condensate into bucket.
Hope this helps

I've been eyeing this as a replacement for my current portable AC and knew this dropped to this price before at Costco, in for one!

I also have been waiting for this price to drop. Looks like another year of pre-summer discount!

In for one.

I wonder how much more efficient this semi-dual hose model would be over my single hose (cost savings).

With a two-hose model, I feel like the output would be a little farther from the intake, but this seems like it's just going to suck the hot air immediately back in?

I'm not sure I'd bother unless you're already looking to upgrade the single hose unit because it's old or whatever other reason. Recouping the $450 expense of the new unit through energy savings is going to take a while.. probably longer than the new unit will last.

We just picked up some 550 sq foot dual hose inverter Hisense models last month at Costco for 329, IIRC. Wonder why these are so much more

I did some paper napkin math for my single hose and at 35 cents a kw/hr based on 8 hour usage if I remember correctly, it would take me at least 3-4 years to break-even compared to buying a dual hose at this price point.

I bought this last year, works great and not TOO loud, but the internal thermometer is busted. The sensed temp is always at least 5-10 degrees off from my Nest sensors and I feel like the Nest sensor reading is more representative to the temp feel.

I'm sure the $329 isn't an everyday price. You probably got it on sale and the store is clearing out old stock for the new stock even if it looks the same. If you check online, most of these dual hoses with 10k-14k btu portable ac are about $500+.

Don't have this exact model but I upgraded from a 10 yr old single hose to a Danby 2 hose and the different is night and day. Much faster cooling and doesn't run all the time at all.

found it, it was actually $319 in store for everyone. But 8k btu but the box says 550 sq feet, so I don't know. Link makes it look like its even cheaper now online, I wonder if store is even lower than that now?

Single hose units are much better now. Look at the ratings on the sticker. That's all you need to know.
