Dual hose is significantly more efficient; this is a frequent question. It's not a question of "sucking hot air back in," the much bigger difference is that single hose units take some of the just-cooled air out of the room and throw it outside, which is extremely wasteful. Dual hose units, even bad ones, keep the conditioned air inside and the unconditioned air outside.

I think this is the exact same as the $350 refurbished Toshiba in woot that's in and out of stock every other day. Nice machine and $100 extra for the extra Costco warranty and return policy isn't bad. I've only had my Toshiba for a week but it's very nice.

I had the same problem, it's because the unit is sensing that the temp is met due to smaller room or air flows right back to the unit. To fix this, use the 'follow me' feature on the remote. This detects the remote's temp, not the unit. Place the remote at the other corner but should still be pointed to the unit. The other problem for me is the swing mode, most of the swing time blows the air into the unit lol. I don't know what the engineers were thinking about the design.
It cools and heats really well. Need to drain condensate into bucket.
Hope this helps

SEER rating is 12. You're paying extra already for an inferior product compared to the window units. I'd say look into a Midea U style window unit. I'd only get this is I had no other choice. (I once thought I wanted this but once you look at all the downsides, this really shouldn't even exist)

FYI, if window mounting is a concern, it's pretty easy nowadays. They all come with a shelf that butts up against your window. I use a tube insulation to keep outside air out and use the foam that comes with the unit where the window meets the unit. Works well, quiet (when in auto mode). Only down side is storage.

Single hose units are much better now. Look at the ratings on the sticker. That's all you need to know.
Even if they are more efficient, they'll need to run longer compared to dual hose units. It's just the nature of an A/C unit.

Like others have mentioned, this looks identical to the Toshiba-branded refurb that was frontpage at $300 last year, though that one's rated at 14K BTU instead of 12K. The Toshiba I got last year has been working flawlessly, only problem was the vent being dislodged upon arrival - an issue that everyone who bought one seemed to have.

I wouldn't have an issue spending $450 on one of these, thanks to the awful crank-style windows in my apartment it was impossible to install a window unit and some fabrication just to get the vent hose installed correctly, but this thing's been a game changer. No more sweaty 80-degree evenings on the couch or in our bathroom.

Eh - for some people, it's nice to be able to move the unit around as needed.. and if you go with the "U" style Midea window AC.. that is NOT an easy unit to move from window to window due to the required bracket.

Great price for what everybody seems to think is the very best portable AC. I bought one from Costco at full price less than a month ago so looking forward to getting a price adjustment.

For those debating between a nicer model like this and a budget one:
I bought an off brand discount one from Woot last year and regret it. It's loud, inefficient, and the tube attachments are cheap and leaky. Invest in a good one.

For the record, window units are better but i have a room where a window unit wouldn't work.

Do you know how much power it consumes when heating? Is it far more efficient than a regular 1500w electric heater? That's all I care.

On low fan 600-700w, medium 750-850w, high 900-1250w, measured using clamp meter. 1500w electric heater will give you 5000btu max. This is variable upto 12000btu. The only down side is the heating works when temp is above 42f.

We just picked up some 550 sq foot dual hose inverter Hisense models last month at Costco for 329, IIRC. Wonder why these are so much more
Yeah- same here.
I could not find the U-shaped Midea in my local Costco when it was on sale till last week I think. I had picked up the Hisense before but didnt get the time to install. This seems similar to Hisense, but which amongst Hisense, Midea Ushaped window ac and this MIdea portable AC are better?
