You've never tried to file a claim with AllState's worthless warranty. I could tell you a couple long stories on a few laptops that arrived broken through eBay and the run arounds and the finger pointing on who is liable. They'll actually want you to file a claim through the shipper (UPS) first, even though I could prove they were not damaged by shipping. eBay will NOT help you with the warranty madness. But dont take my word on it, just read the comments from the last 5 years at https://www.facebook.com/AllstateProtectionPlans

Asurion, who Amazon uses, is much much easier to deal with.

Well, Ebay Certified Refurbished 2 year warranty through Allstate is very tempting.

Compared to Amazon's 90 day policy on refurbished (unless you spend $63.99 on an extended warranty), eBay is the better deal.

as long as they are just doing common tasks and not a comp sci or digital arts major who needs to use heavier software it should be great based on the specs, but i have no first hand experience with the device.

Thank you. She is doing computer science so this probably not a good fit.

it's a low wattage U series. a single heat pipe is fine unless you are trying to push the integrated graphics and a bunch cores really hard at once. heavy gaming or composite video editing/3d work could cause throttling, but I wouldn't recommend a U series with integrated graphics for those tasks anyways. for web browsing, photo editing, light video editing, playing a few older games or lighter modern games, this is perfectly enough.
What about gaming with a eGPU through the thunderbolt 4 port?

Your story doesn't compute; received purchased item damaged in shipping has NOTHING to do with warranty claim (neither would UPS). Seller, then Ebay, and then payment form (PayPal and/or credit card bank) would be ones to issue refund and handle this.

Also, your link to warranty co.'s FB page doesn't seem to provide any insight.

Allstate Warranty might indeed be awful (or, alternatively, wonderful), but unfortunately no way to gauge from info you provided...
Not sure what your computing problem is. Like I said, I could prove it wasnt damaged from shipping. The USB-C port not displaying video, but data transfer works fine, is NOT damage from shipping. And I cant help you on how to read comments on a FB page. Confused

it's been said....

2% less cash back = 2 year warranty via eBay/all stat vs 90 days from Amazon.

easy decision

a u series is going to be really limiting for heavy gaming with egpu, on top of the bandwidth limitations of tb4. at that price point, assuming you're paying $200+ for egpu enclosure and another $200-300 for a midtange gpu plus the $450 for this laptop, you can go mini itx desktop or actual gaming oriented laptop with a h series cpu and a rtx 3060. maybe even an rtx 3070 laptop if you buy used/wait for deals. generally egpu give you about one tier lower performance, so a 3070 will perform like a 3060, but compound that with a low wattage cpu, not sure it's worth the cost.

Good deal with the eBay 2 year warranty. I like Flex 7 more than the Flex 5i. But both look pretty slick.

At this price you would sometimes see 8GB of soldered RAM which is madness on Windows 11. But with 16GB it is very workable.

last time I got a refurbished laptop, it powered on the first time. after a week in, power button wouldn't work unless I hold it down/press the battery reset button. Shut down one more time, and it wouldn't start up again. luckily was within refund period but they charged me restocking fee. I'd stay away from refurbished for now but unless some one has anything good to say about this seller, I wouldn't bite.

woops sorry forgot to add, it was amazon 3rd party seller. It was not specified on their page either that they would charge restocking fee.

Typically a complaint to Amazon CS (via chat) will remedy that
