Got the phone Friday p.m. My observations so far:

1. Turned the phone on with NO sim inserted. I used my wifi to test it.
2. The phone greeted me with MY NAME. Creepy!
3. Personally, I don't like the Android 12 interface at all.
4. Used wifi to run Android updates (~55 of them) + two security updates.
5. I didn't detect any junk apps being installed in the background. I didn't see any "mobile installer" or "mobile services" app installed.
6. RAM boost to 5 GB was already turned on.
7. Used my provider IMEI checker and the phone was "approved."
8. Bought unlock code from eBay (from the above already mentioned seller) at around 6 p.m. I gave the seller my IMEI.
9. Received the unlock code 20 mins later.
10. I inserted a Ting SIM from my old phone this morning. The phone didn't ask me for an unlock code. Strange! The phone went through a whole bunch of setups. Sensory overload(!) but ultimately things worked okay. Made a few calls and verified that SMS is also working with images.
11. I found a Boost One app installed in Apps, but I uninstalled it. FYI, I called my provider, and I was told that Boost, Ting, and Dish TV are now one company.
12.The phone seems pretty snappy to me. Not sure why some people complained about the phone being slow and laggy.
13. I'm most definitely buying a case for this phone. It feels "slippery when wet."

Note: This phone is tall, and getting even a basic case will add to its dimension.

Plan to unlock asap and use with my MVNO. Can anything be done with the one month of unlimited Boost?

FYI, I was able to cancel autopay on my account right after I made the purchase (no line has been assigned yet). That save you time to do the online chat
I also paid with PayPal and cancelled autopay with them.

Tracfone did not allow me to use Verizon sim during activation when provided the IMEI of this phone, tried twice with two diff verizon sims. Tracfone prompted me to buy a new sim and ships to my home.
The third time used a Tmobile sim, and activation went thru. No issue with the service after switched over to Tracfone Tmobile.

The nice thing about Android is there are various ways to modify the interface to your liking. And an Android 13 upgrade should be on it's way; you might like that interface better. Smilie

Moto is apparently better than most about keeping out "junk" apps. Their phones aren't going to be stock Android like the Pixels, but are way less cluttered than the Samsung flagships. Of course, the Styluses (Stylii?) will have an app specifically to support a stylus.

That's a nice touch.

Their expectations and previous experience with other phones, probably. But what I read about this phone is that its real-world performance is comparable to that of the Galaxy S9, which is pretty good, especially at this price. I'm excited to see if that is true or not.

I've already purchased two cases online (even before getting delivery confirmation for the phone): an "armor" case for daily use at home and in the office and a wallet-style fake leather travel case for trips and outings. While it's true that either case might make it impossible for me to slip the phone into my pants pocket, I actually like that it's so tall. That will leave a more usable space above the virtual keyboard, which should make the phone great for txt and e-mail input, especially since it also has a stylus.

I brought out my old Moto X Pure (2015) with android 7 and there isn't any option for double tap I the settings. I then brought out my Moto Z Play (2016) with android 8 and that is when the double tap to wake worked really well. There isn't any actual "double tap" for the Moto Z Play but when your hand goes over the screen or tap, it wakes so no "tap" is necessary. If I nudge the moto z play on a table, it won't wake. With my Motorola Moto Z2 Force (2017), it runs with the "Peek Display" like Moto G Power/Stylus 2020 and Stylus 5G 2022. If you go into the Moto Z2 Force and click "Learn more" with Peek Display, they show hand swipe over to screen to wake up, "Just Bump It" to Peek at notifications. It is a feature.

With the Moto Z Play, they called it "Moto Display". Quite odd how the Peek Display "Bump to wake" feature is used with the Moto Z2 Force and so on. Not quite needed.

With the Moto G Stylus 5G 2022, you can turn off any of waking up screen by nudges or movements by going to Settings --> Display --> Peek Display --> Toggle Off..... You will lose swipe hand over or tap to wake. Need to press power button to wake. All the movement gestures like chop for flash still work.

Wouldn't running an app in the background like waveup app or double tap use more battery life than the motorola phone waking with nudge or movement.

I actually put the moto g stylus 5g 2022 in my waist band with screen outward so I can see, walked around, stopped, walked around again, etc. It never woke up. Not even once. The phone recognizes that the phone is in "pocket mode". Try it yourself with a belt or waist band. I can do crossfit and it won't wake up.... After that waist band experiment, I put it on table. A completely still phone. Nudge it on table and it wakes.

App unnecessary... It won't wake in your pocket. Phone recognizes when in pocket vs on desk face up. With desk, phone is in bright light and completely still. With in a pocket, phone is in darkness and has lot of slight movements. Phone recognizes and understands "pocket mode".

With the moto z play, it states that the "Moto Display will not appear in your pocket or purse" or "Face Down".

* I put the moto g stylus 5g 2022, face down on desk with some of it leaning on edge. I nudge it and it doesn't wake. I flip it over and nudge it with screen upward, it wakes. Lighting helps determine the phone's pocket mode.

* If you put the phone in your pocket screen face down towards your thigh and sit down at your desk and move your leg around, it won't wake. I am bouncing my thigh like a drummer and it won't wake up. Even when I put the phone on the outside of my thigh with screen up and somewhat covered over with a shirt, I peek and the phone isn't waking when I bounce my thigh. It uses some light sensor technology to disable the "tap/hit to wake" technology. If I put the phone on my thigh screen face upward with no covering, the phone will constantly wake with movements. It is definitely using the light sensor along with its motion sensor to determine if it is in pocket. That is why a still phone's screen wake up is way more active on the desk while face up.
You are CORRECT. The light AND motion sensors together control tap to wake. Covering the light sensor at the top will disable the wake function. Repped!

If Motorola ditched the "hit the phone to wake", I don't think anybody would miss it. Tap/wave your hand on screen makes sense. It does seem like an odd feature with the hit or move phone to wake. I think I will just turn off Peek Display completely with my Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 because I never interact with notification while the screen is off. I really prefer to have the regular screen to interact with a notification. I thought my daily driver Pixel 6a had tap to wake but it doesn't even have that feature as I was tapping the screen today to wake it. I didn't even realize it didn't have it so I guess I don't miss tap to wake much. Motorola gestures are great though and I find them very helpful.

on metro moto there is a software bug where even if unlocked the setting claim it is locked.

curious if that is affecting this moto as well
How do you know it is actually unlocked if the setting says locked? So you can't get the Metro "unlocked" phone to work with what carrier that you are trying? Are you using a t-mobile or t-mobile MVNO sim? Maybe Metro changed their terms to 6 months active service. No more 1 month service.

I have a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy A71 5G, got it unlocked and worked great with AT&T Red Pocket and when AT&T shut down their 3G service, my Samsung Galaxy A71 5G couldn't make or receive calls. I had to change my redpocket (at&t sim) to redpocket (t-mobile sim). Hopefully my Metro Moto G Stylus 5G 2022 will later work with my RedPocket (t-mobile sim) in like 3 months from now.
