Can I use it on Boost for a month then unlock the phone? Or do I need to do the ebay dance first.

Test the 4G and 5G speed with t-mobile. Run a speed test app or website. I am curious how the performance will be. Will this phone be somewhat nerfed with t-mobile or be perfectly fine? If it is a little bit slower with t-mobile, I would be fine but if there is a huge noticeable difference, it would bother me.
tmo 5G was ~500 down and ~55 up using meteor speed test. I had to run so I only had time for 2 tests but thats a rough average of the 2. I'd never used 5g before so that seemed very fast to me.

Received mine today and unlocked it right way, haven't bothered with the Boost Mobile SIM yet. Very happy! Got on AT&T 5G and T-mobile 5GUC. Love the stylus, great for taking notes.

For those who care.

I initially posted that this phone has no bloatware. I was wrong. After all the app and system updates, it showed a couple of Boost apps, plus a suspicious App carrier (red-in-the-background-white-in-the-center icon) that looks like a Boost-related app. I used the adb de-bloat method (google it if you need more info) to get rid of all Boost-related entries in the system and restarted the phone, but it still showed Boost Visual Voicemail and the Carrier App to update. I'm planning to go back and see if I can get rid of those two.

I must add that my provider is Ting and not Boost.

Now I can understand why some folks prefer to pay a bit more for TRULY unlocked phones with no carrier bloat. Exactly my sentiment.

Just my two cents.

I'm with Ting and it's possible that I got that bloatware because Ting+Boost+Dish are now one company. I did install my Ting sim to "initiate" the phone initially just to test it. I've gone back o my old Motorola though.

10. I inserted a Ting SIM from my old phone this morning. The phone didn't ask me for an unlock code. Strange! The phone went through a whole bunch of setups. Sensory overload(!) but ultimately things worked okay. Made a few calls and verified that SMS is also working with images..
suggest:
u have the code.
u have paid for it.
may as well get in truly unlocked.

put in a non boost, dish , ting sim etc.

and unlock the phone.
then perhaps a factory reset

In the spot where they ask you if you want to keep/use your number did you click that or go with the other to get a new number? I clicked I wanted to keep my number but I'm now worried that was wrong and it will do something to deactivate it from AT&T. I'm just going to unlock and use with my existing AT&T sim. I'm new to this and not sure how the number game works.

Thanks for any help from all.

Sould be good enough, this phone is on par in performance with a 5 year old flagship phone like galaxy s9
Mine arrived! Performance-wise (CPU), I agree. But the Moto G Stylus 5G has twice the storage of my Samsung flagship phone, and side by side, the Moto looks HUGE by comparison to the Samsung. (In terms of screen real-estate, it's nearly as large my beloved 2nd gen Nexus 7 tablet, but it's more compact due to the thinner bezels.) So the Moto has significant advantages over the old flagship phones.

otoh, the Moto doesn't have a brilliant OLED QHD+ display... but it's unlikely you can get that kind of display on a new phone for even 4x the cost of this deal.

In terms of style/appearance, I dare say the Moto is rather handsome, if such a word could be used to describe a phone. I wouldn't be embarrassed to take it anywhere or be seen holding it, even though it sports a plastic back rather than a glass or metal one. Anyway, it's going into a case tomorrow, so no one is gonna see its back. What they might see instead is the gorgeous black and deep blue startup screen, which is quite striking.
