No. You want a stability shoe for flat feet. Asics GT line or kayano, the gts variants from Brooks or the guides in saucony. I know how has a stability line but I'm not sure the name off the top of my head.

I highly recommend the Asics personally as someone who has flat feet and has been in the shoe business a long time. Main thing is getting your size right because the denser foam in the arch needs to hit right or they will feel like crap.

HOKA's are amazing shoes. It's like they tried to make this shoe as ugly as possible. Only the fugliest are discounted.

I've been reading Hoka are narrow shoes. No wonder why all the wide sizes are sold out. I like my brooks gts adrenaline 22. But many of my medical professional wear hoka.
I've tried on several pairs of Hokas (Speedboat, Clifton, Rincon, Mach) and don't find them narrow at all. I also have Adrenalines, but an starting to shop for a replacement because I don't need the stability any more

Brooks tend to run small. I have Brooks Adrenaline and wear a 9.5, but for Hoka (and most other running shoes) I'm a 10.5
Wait, if you are a 9.5 in Brooks but a 10.5 in Hoka and others, wouldn't that imply that the Brooks run large?

FWIW, I wear Brooks Ghost and find them to be pretty true to size.

Are they good for general walking and standing? Looking to buy for my mom who is 68 so want to see if these will keep her comfortable for general walking and running?

They are so comfortable for standing and walking. They have very thick soles which sometimes makes them hard to get used to. I would misjudge where the bottom of my feet were getting in and out of the car. It wasn't a problem, just gave everyone a giggle. Haven't had a single problem with my plantar fasciitis since I switched to them.

I also just read that these shoes are below average when it comes to durability. Can anyone confirm?
i had two hoka clifton 7's, two clifton 8's and one clifton 9 - after about 400 miles in them the big toe area where the mesh meets the sole will start to rip first regardless of which clifton model i had. the mileage does coincide with when the wear pattern on the heel strike area on the outside foot wears down where you can't see the black padding anymore and needs replacement. I keep buying it mainly because of bunions - which made me switch from brooks adrenalines previously. Also as others noted it does run narrow. I wore 9.5 medium in brooks, and have two clifton's in 9.5M and 3 in 9.5WIDE. the wide definitely fits better

They're also very popular with nurses and other professions on their feet a lot, and with actual runners. They aren't made to be casual wear sneakers.

Do you sit in a park or near a sidewalk and look at runners' shoes?
It annoys me when people hype HOKA shoes. HOKA models such as the Rincon use plain vanilla EVA, a very dated foam that seems downright archaic in 2023.

The truth is HOKA is not very popular with runners. Most HOKA purchases are actually done by casual users, or as you noted, healthcare workers. That doesn't mean that HOKAs are the best option for static standing or walking. The brand is simply trendy and women, the brand's primary demo, are influenced by trends.

It's a social statement. Look 👀 at me I'm wearing $170 sneakers 👟. When you see others wearing adidas or Nike , weak know you can get those for $39.99 at DSW.

They were much more popular with runners several years ago - they were a pioneer in the trends of maximalist shoes and rockers that are everywhere now. They have certainly been coasting on their success, without much innovation though.

If you go to the runningshoegeeks subreddit or discords focused on running, there are plenty of people who use Hokas. Running shoes are a very individual thing, and it's not just about how modern your foam is. Fit and feel is key too.

I don't own any Hokas but my favorite shoe of the moment is Saucony's Kinvara 13, which isn't anything super special or modern in design. I'd even say it has a pretty old school feel to it. But it works for me. I also tried on Rincons and Machs and they felt great to me.

Hoka's trail runners, particularly the Speedgoat, are very popular shoes for trail running and hiking, particularly with lightweight backpackers.

Times change. HOKA has been heavily criticized on r/runningshoegeeks for the past 2 years. There's a hate thread for brand on Letsrun and a lengthy tread on Slowtwitch where HOKA gets called out for still relying on EVA instead of using newer foam technologies.

HOKA's Speedgoat is nothing special and "trail running" is quite niche, not even a real sport. It's not sanctioned by the World Athletics Association or recognized by the IOC. Trail running is simply a recreational activity that has been exploited by shoe brand marketers. So-called ultra marathons are even less credible. Participants, including the winners of such events, essentially walk for half of the "race" and shuffle their feet at 10 minute pace for the remainder.

But all of this is besides the point. HOKA doesn't care about runners, at least established ones. They target the casual user. The nurse that wears Crocs at home and wants something fashionably ugly to wear at the hospital. They also scoop up sales from people new to running. Someone on Reddit characterized HOKA as a "gateway" brand for the uninitiated.

Long time casual runner. Switched from Nike to Hoka after getting blisters and bad wear. The Hoka website had the best information about the shoe. Most shoes I swap out at 500 miles.

Started with the Cliftons and they lasted for a very long time. But are a little heavier and bulky. Switched to the Rincon and have been using them ever since. On pair 4 now. They are a little lighter and less bulky and have been wearing fine for my street running usage.

Ok then. I guess the posts I've seen from people saying they've tried a bunch of different brands, but Hoka just works for them, are wrong. I'll be sure to tell them.

Who cares if trail running isn't a "real sport?" It's a thing that people do, and Hoka makes a good shoe for it. Lightweight, vibram sole, good fit for lots of people. It's also one of the most popular shoes for through hikers, and they're some of the most hardcore gear nerds out there

I didn't know shoes could be so incredibly divisive, you must live a fascinating life to have such strong feelings about a brand lol

You're parroting a marketing spiel. HOKA is not a running shoe brand nor a trail running brand. They're an athleisure focused brand. You're building them up to be something they don't even claim to be. As for Vibram, shoe brands are moving away from their proprietary treads and developing their own outsoles to avoid the licensing fees.

No, because they see other women wearing them. It's a trend among women just like Crocs and UGGS.
