Very good game, got 30+ hours out of it. XCOM with real time combat. Skill menu slows time. Kinda want to restart on nightmare. It is buggy but already gotten some patches to fix stuff. If you like Aliens and XCOM style management it's a slam dunk. played entirely on steam deck, use protonge 8.4. performance is decent on the deck. I think it's worth it at this price definitely with the caveat that I'm a huge aliens fan and I like XCOM style management with isometric tactical real time combat. also get past the prologue because that's the weakest part of the game. really hopeful this game gets some love because it's surprisingly good. it's doing some really cool things that XCOM didn't do. maybe not as much replayability but neither is XCOM without mods.
Thanks for the review. I played for a few hours last night and I am enjoying it so far. It's an odd mix between an X-Com type game and an RTS, but it ends up working really well. And I actually didn't mind the prologue, but I can see how once you do it the first time, you would want to skip it on different playthroughs.
I am currently half through this game and honestly it is an amazing game. Needs more content down the road but the mechanics are amazing. Fast paced, anxiety inducing maps, and the story is kinda great. Avoid the facehuggers at all cost.
For a four player co-op, I found DRG to be much better. I played about 90 minutes and refunded it. I only found one match, the rest was with bots and so I wasn't really impressed with what I experienced.
This game is hella good. My favorite part of Aliens are the Colonial Marines, so I've been eating good recently
It should be getting a performance patch this week with some technical fixes it needs badly, but otherwise it is a very solid attempt at a strategy game for the Aliens franchise.
Isolation and Fireteam were very good but this solidly lands the hit for people in the venn diagram of "Strategy Gamers" and "Colonial Marines fans"
I hope this game does really well to warrant future content or a sequel. I'm sure Fireteam Elite did pretty good so I hope to see a sequel there too as well.
I would describe this game as XCOM (squad management) + Darkest Dungeon (push your luck/stress mechanics) + Nemesis (the injury mechanics). For turn-based gamers, there is an option in the settings to change Slow-Mo to Pause so you can make decisions at your leisure by hitting space bar.

I've enjoyed Fireteam a lot (over 500 hours), despite of what appears to be a generic 3rd person shooter Fireteam surprisingly has quite a lot of build depth/variety. Every class has a 4x8 power grid of sorts that you can fill in with whatever perks you like and the end result is a incredibly diverse build system that makes the game stand out from the rest (I'd say the build system is richer than DRG), the game is also extremely hard on Insane difficulty without the use of any cards, Remnant from the Ashes was piss easy compared to this. If there's any caveat to the game I would say the campaign is a bit short and since dodging is host-side instead of client side like Remnant which makes dodging impossible when playing in high latency games. (Games like Monster Hunter use client-side dodging so no matter which country of the host you play with it feels the same)
