40 series have frame generation and dlss3. And 3080 had 10gb vram right? That may be a problem
it's the 12gb version of the 3080...decisions decisions.

So basically RTX 3080 performance for $540 when the 3080 came out 1.5 years ago at an MSRP of $699? I'm not impressed.

This or the XFX 319 6950XT?
I'm assuming the 6950 XT is way more powerful, unless you take into account ray tracing, but I haven't looked into it too closely.

Is this the model that runs a bit hot?
Yes unlike most other similar cards, the VRM on the top side do not touch the heat sink which means they tend to run hot. multiple reviews have shown that it will reach 90° or higher. Note though that these parts are rated to run much higher. I think like 130° plus. but that being said, a lot of people feel uncomfortable with having a part of their GPU run this hot without being connected to active cooling

Still very expansive. Last card I bought was only $90 for a 9800gt from 2008 which is about $128 in 2023.
$90 for 9800GT? Post the deal or didn't exist! Wink

Dang. I've been waiting for about 3 years to upgrade. I know prices might come down more but I've got to where I need to switch to Nvidia for my Data Science hobby and want a VR upgrade. Not sure if waiting for them to come down even $100 more in another 6 months is worth the wait.

Would be a huge upgrade from my 5700xt

What are you going to use it for. For example, in a Stable Diffusion use case, the RTX 4070 is around 4x faster.

Yeah 3070 $499 at launch was similar performance to 2080Ti which was top card for that generation. 4070 can't even beat 3080Ti not as big of improvement as last gen cards. Unless get 4090

I think hold the line. It looks like things are just starting to get interesting. A sapphire 7900xt is $720 on amazon.

my target is sub $400 for a 6800xt or sub $500 for a 4070

It'll arrive in late July, so it's indeed 2 mo grace period for you to regret if you make an order now.

They will.. there is huge shelf stock now that the pandemic supply chain issues are resolved, not everyone has a ton of free money giving the economy, the mining phase has passed, and manufacturers need to clear old so they can release new stuff.
You forgot about AI though I doubt it'll led to crypto level supply issues.
