Great deal if you are looking for a huge upright freezer! I purchased a few days ago for $899.99 with $350 off but today, it's even lowered at $699.99. I called Costco and got a $200 credit on my original purchase.
YMMV

On Page 7 of the manual it states you shouldn't let the temperature drop below 40 degrees if you want maximum efficiency. So technically this isn't "Garage Ready." But if your garage stays between 40 and 90 you should be fine.

Definitely not garage ready in the South. It can get 130F in my garage in the heat of Summer

Wow, 130? Sounds like your garage needs some type of venting.

Does frost free mean auto defrost, ie less shelf life for the frozen food?

Our garage falls down to 0 - 30? 😂 Northern life.

My 12-year-old Frigidaire 13.8 ft upright freezer bit the dust just before the holiday and I bought the 16 ft version of this from Costco for $620. Home Depot and Lowe's both have the identical Whirlpool version on sale for $800, so Costco undercuts them considerably.

I would have liked to buy the larger version, but I don't have room for it in my utility room. The space is climate controlled, so I don't need it to be garage ready.

A downside to this model is that it doesn't have much adjustability in temperature - just cold, colder, and coldest. It also doesn't have a door ajar alarm or a high-temperature alarm, which is what alerted me to the previous freezer's demise before everything was ruined. I purchased an electronic freezer thermometer that will beep if the preset temperature is exceeded to make up for this.

wait - so if the garage temp is below 40F, then the freezer won't work? seems a bit counterintuitive to me - it would be insulating more than cooling IMHO

It's designed to refrigerate, not heat, but that said if it gets too cold basically the freezer would just disable cooling, just like if you kept your AC on going into the fall/winter, the tstat would just not call for cooling.

It's to protect a compressor not designed for below freezing temps.

It doesn't necessarily stop working Depends on the compressor. if it gets too cold, it can damage the compressor. The compressor itself needs to be designed to work in below freezing temperatures. If not, and you put it outside or in a garage or barn that's 10 degrees, it may seize up and break.

The compressor may have sensors to know it's too cold. In that case, it will stop to make sure it doesn't break.

That's why you need a garage freezer or fridge designed for an uninsulated space if it'll drop below freezing.

But most unheated garages should be ok. I was more worried about temps in my garage, but the hottest my garage got this summer was 88 degrees. And in winter it doesn't drop below 50.

We bought this from Costco in late June for a net price of $600 when they were offering additional discounts on purchases of multiple items in certain categories. It has performed just fine in the summer heat, but "Delivery & Installation" was a joke...two random guys in a truck who wouldn't do anything more than wheel it unopened into the garage.

Does yours blink this blasted red light on the cooling control panel? 2nd time now and of course resetting power clears it, but there's no meaning for this light even
