Easily the greatest kitchen gadget I've ever owned!
The following recipe will knock your socks off and has under 250 calories per pint:
Fairlife vanilla protein shake 14oz
7 g or one tablespoon of sugar-free chocolate pudding mix
Two tablespoons of PB2
Either still really well or mixed together with a frother and then freeze for 24 hours.
Use the light ice cream setting on the creamy, when it's done, add one tablespoon of milk of your choice, I use unsweetened almond milk to cut down on the calories, and then re-spin.
Enjoy!

This one seems to be just a slight variation of cup placement in relation to the original. Wouldn't pay full price for it, when the same 7-in-1 Creami original can be had for half price... but might be something someone else finds more convenient.

Woot had it for under $80 recently (can't remember if refurb'd or not), amazon runs specials sometimes, and with Kohl's stackable coupons, there's been prices below $70 (maximizing all available options), so there's a good bit of options out there. Costco runs it for <$100 new and Wally has the 5-in-1 for around $100 (if you don't need some of the functions, that may also be a useful option).
Again, we find the original holding up great. Doubtful they insulated the motor noise adequately to be much more quiet in the new one (although plastic gears may be dampening the noise a bit). We don't mind. It's less than 2 minutes of noise for a custom pint of ice cream... worth it for us.

get the old one if you plan to use it close to every day
get the new one if you just use it once a week or less
The old model has a mixing lid that is virtually impossible to clean and guaranteed to grow mold (which will infect your food as it's in contact with it). The new one has a different mixing lid design completely.
Not sure where you made up the stuff about the gearing being different. They weigh the same and are both beasts.
