Yes, in the old days. But not any more. Instead, just buy a $1 BYOP sim for another device and activate/transfer balance. I have done it perhaps 20 times.

Beware: They canceled my 4 recent orders on previous deals on different addresses with completely new accounts.
The charges are still pending on the cards.

Beware, sim is linked to original phone IMEI. Not recommended to swap without reregistering phone.
Read TracFone policy - at anytime TF can cancel your line if sim doesn't match the original IMEI.
Well, sometime the policy wrote like that, put I doubt they're going to cancel customer phone line. Because they need customer to make money. I personally need the phone. So after 2 months and unlocked it. I doesn't care about the TF sim card, because I never use it anyway Big Grin

WARNING: There's already a lot of false information in this thread, and there's going to be more. Most people are not up to date on what's happening with Tracfone.

Old post below

It's not worth it anymore. Tracfone has entered it's enshitification after the Verizon buyout.

The phones are hard to flip because there's so many other flippers/harvesters flipping so low, the AAL points are long gone, referrals are not worth it, and the entire reward points system is slowly being dismantled.

The only reason to buy this is to harvest the time, and Tracfone is a lousy carrier, so you shouldn't be doing that anyway. You should be moving to a different carrier.

Even as "emergency phones" these are really terrible. I wouldn't want to count on one of these in an emergency.
Wtf are you spewing
The tracfone I purchased a couple years ago to use as a backup in case of emergency runs on Verizon... has service most places and the $50 moto g something or other still works and I had it as a backup for I think just over 2 yrs before using the number to get deal on s23 ultra 512 switching number to Google fi for the $600 phone and 3x$24 charges before cancel.

I want to get more like here to again have a backup when I loose my number terminating fi and using my s23 with my tmobile account.
For being able to get a phone and about 2 to 2.5yrs of service for the original purchase price ONLY....

Is a no effin Brainer

edit... and I did turn off data
this is an emergency phone unless you're needing say a burner because of say battered women shelter phones or something.

I have tmobile unlimited and I had the tracfone up until i bought the s23. I have never had a dropped call if I needed it.

in Hurricane Ian I did have a little spotty service
between the two tmobile and Verizon but they also use multiple services signals and between the two I didn't loose contact at all despite being on the outside of the eye wall

Most likely your account has been banned/locked regardless of which card and email combo you use. Only way to fix it is to call in and have it fixed. You probably have more than one account under your address which is a big no no with both HSN and QVC.
I haven't purchased from HSN/QVC in years. I got banned for the same reason. The ban lasted for years. Nothing gets around it. I called them too, they said nothing could be done. It was final.

Let's say I do this and get this working on a BYOP device and later I want to move it to another BYOP device. Do you know if that also requires a new SIM kit and the whole account move routine or a simple SIM move would be sufficient?

Yes, it's recommended to get another new BYOP sim. Remember that once BYOP sim is activated, it's tied to a specific IMEI. I know it's a pain but that's how TF works and hence I did this ~20 times.

Yeah, I appreciate how I can have a prepaid plan without really giving them (and Verizon) my personal data and/or credit card details, but dealing with their antics (account moving, not recognizing some of the phones from other operators, periodic issues with connection requiring a reboot etc) is becoming a burden...

I purchased this deal last year as disposable 'training' phones for two of my kids. The battery life is abyssmal and and no other charging cords work except the ones that came with it.

There's no more CDMA, it's LTE on Verizon.
Sim is linked to phone it comes with, if you want to move plan to a new phone you need a different sim, usually a $1 BYOP TF sim for an unlocked phone (or an inactive TF to reactivate).
The only thing these are useful for is harvesting TF service, they're really cheap flip phones.
Okay, the linked sim card said CDMA phones, so that is why I asked. I have a feeling that there are several people with GSM only phones that would have a real problem with the item.
