There are three Rheem models on sale for 20% off. All of them are the Performance Platinum Models. They are condensing which is super high efficiency at 0.93 and can be vented with 2" PVC. (There is one level above this line at 0.96 and they still qualify for federal credits). These units on sale don't get federal credits but there are likely local credits from gas suppliers.

Thanks for posting. I have been keeping an eye out for an outdoor model, but am rethinking that seeing the option for pvc venting. Kinda worried about the 1 star reviews though. Also sounds like if you are installing yourself you will be out of luck with any warranty service.

Wow, those reviews look ugly. I badly want one of these due to having 3 teenage daughters who fight over hot water for showers like we are in some kind of post-apocalyptic hellscape, but not if the thing is going to fall apart in a year...

Yeah, I was concerned as well about some of those 1 star reviews. Some were for the wrong unit. One guy ordered the wrong item and gave it a 1-star… but there are quite a few with legitimate issues with error codes. But even a couple of those seemed like it could be the plumbing system. There are lots of potential issues with tankless that don't come into play with traditional tank units such as if you're on a well or with flow rate….

I'm rolling the dice and hope to install by Monday. I will do the install and regarding warranty. I saw on another board somewhere, a Rheem rep said that they would provide parts under warranty, just no luck on labor…

Edit: From Warranty "Rheem strongly recommends that this tankless water heater be installed by a contractor which is licensed, state qualified, and trained on Rheem's tankless products since improper installation may invalidate warranty coverage."

Recommend does not equal require so I think it should be fine for DIYers.

Moen Quattro shower head solved our problem. Lower flow, but guests don't believe that it is actually lower flow. Obviously doesn't help for baths.

I have a Rinnai that I've had since 2019 and love it. Only maintenance is a vinegar flush once a year to keep scale down (I have a 5 gallon bucket that I put a submersible pump in and some hoses....that is my "water heater cleaner kit").

I can't attest to Rheem, but if you haven't yet, check out Rinnai (mine is an external model as I live in FL and don't have to worry much about freezing pipes).

Will do. Getting delayed because my help won't be here Monday… but it will hopefully be this week.

Installed yesterday. Went smooth but it was a full day (12 hour) install. That included re-working some gas line and running vent (roof) in addition to removing the existing tank and having to rework water lines. Overall pretty straightforward if you're an advanced DIYer. Functionality, it's been great. Nice consistent pressure and temp when running hot water. Time will tell on longevity. I wanted to get some space back in my utility room and I hope to also save on propane over time… I feel good about the purchase so far…
