Spending this much on a soundbar just makes me nervous. Soundbars aren't (generally) expandable, so once some new tech comes out, you have to throw away the entire system to upgrade to "Atmos 2" or whatever. This is in contrast to a receiver-style system where you can keep your speakers and upgrade just the receiver.

I own two Vizio sound bars from back in the day that are 5.1 setups and cost less than $250 each. I'm tempted to upgrade to this, but $600 for a soundbar....Tricky.

What do you mean?
looks like the type where there is a rear control box that is 'wireless' and then you have to wire each of the rear speakers into that rear control box. in which case, it's not a truly wireless situation at all. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Do these require a receiver? I just got a new LG G2 OLED tv and currently have a 10 year old Sony 5.1 in a box hooked up to it. Looking for an upgrade without breaking the bank, but also don't want something that won't hinder the experience of my higher-end TV.

Is this a solid pick?

no receiver required. connect to your G2 via eARC (single hdmi cable)

So the rears need to be hard wired to a wireless box? This is a hard no for me if this is true. Can anyone confirm?

Yes. Just confirmed with a Samsung rep that the rear speakers will have to be hard wired to the module. That is the only reason I have not clicked the purchase button yet. Might still do it as this is a sweet price for a 23 model.

Yes. The rears connect to a wireless module. Look at system picture posted above and notice the module between the subwoofer and the right speaker

Here is the quick side to side comparison. Imo not much of a lift on the q990c to justify the additional $500. Especially if you already have a home theater setup and are just looking for a decent upgrade to your living room tv (me).

This price is tempting. Debating if I should get this to pair with my new 85QN90B.

Anyone have this soundbar and any thoughts on it?

Q800B or Q800C ... You can pair it with S9500 wireless speakers (true wireless just need power cable) for 7.1.4 setup

So no native 5.1.4 package? I am thinking I need to wait for a 3.1.2 deal to pair with the s9500.
