I got these earlier last week. I was hesitant since it would take me awhile to use 4 bottles so I asked Nivea if this lotion had an expiration and this was their reply:
Some of our products carry an expiration date, as required by the FDA, because they have a sunscreen or time-sensitive active ingredients. You'll find the expiration date printed on the label and box of each such product. Although none of these products will be harmful after its expiration date, it may begin to deteriorate after two years, and the active ingredients may become less effective.
The date of manufacture for products that do not have expiration dates (such as the NIVEA lotion you inquired about) can be determined from the lot code. The lot code is an eight digit-code and is stamped on the back of bottles typically near the UPC code in a rectangular box.
The lot code will either be a series of 8 numbers or 8 numbers followed by 2 letters. In all cases, the first number of the code is the last digit of the year the product was produced, and the next two numbers are the week of the year. For example, Lot Code 21542357 indicates the product was produced in 2022 in the 15th week of the year. The first two stands for production in 2022. The second and third numbers are the week of production, in this example week 15 (April). We recommend that you replace any unused product after the expiration date has passed or if the product does not look or smell right.
