I've been noticing Champion has been dropping the prices on their non inverter generators. Is a Firman a better brand? It's a good price I guess? But no dual or tri fuel and…ooof…a whopping 81 dB at 3/4 load.

Wait for an invertor with a low THD...Total Harmonic Distortion...less than 5%; your electronics will thank you; especially new high-efficiency furnaces that need 'clean power' to operate efficiently, or for that matter, at all.

Yes...but inverters are, as a rule more expensive than a standard gasoline/propane generator I have my eye on the one below...8700 starting amps, 7000 running, which is more than enough for a typical house. The THD is mentioned to be 3%. Only downside is that the regular price is high. It goes on sale every few months for ~$900 or so.

Yes, depending on the model. Inverters are more expensive, but slightly quieter, and weigh less than a comparable non-inverter.
