Any advice on where to buy a well-priced wood table top? Monoprice wants to charge $200-300 for freight shipping via FedEx Freight which is not very slick.

The dual motor version is $160. No reason to pick this for $8 more. Maybe slightly more reliable since either motor could fail on the dual. But it will also take more punishment with a single motor.

edit: my bad, this one comes with a top.

Do you have an example of "$100 walnut block"? I would think a walnut board the size of desk would be quite a bit more expensive than $100? At least my area.

The cheapest 4ft unfinished butcher block I could find was 139 from home depot or lowes, do you know any other places that sell them for 100?

You could try a lumbar yard. $100 is an underestimate, I think it will cost me closer to $150.
