Too many fakes on amazon
Nearly all cases of that issue originated with 3rd-party sellers on Amazon, so ppl wrongly blamed Amazon when it was really careless buyers using questionable 3rd party Amazon sellers with little top no history to blame.
I've ordered approx 30 SD cards from Amazon over the past 10 years and never once received a fake.

Aside from that, you can easily check any Samsung SD or microSD card by using Samsung's own authenticity utility program, which is a 14.7 MB file that can be downloaded at this link (it's at bottom of page):
Samsung Memory Card & UFD Authentication Utility [samsung.com]

It's too bad that the Samsung Endurance cards top out at 256GB. I wish they would expand that line to 512GB, as that would fit my needs better.

So what makes this more suitable for use in a device that's constantly writing to this, including previously written sectors? Wears out less over time, saves data faster or more reliably, etc.? We've got several basic security cameras like Wyze, etc., and so far no apparent issues with "regular" MicroSD cards.
The card warranty is void if used in such devices.

Typical storage cards are not engineered for the punishment that repeated recordings dish out. And more extreme temperatures.

Big one: a typical photo card is more likely to have died without your knowledge when you very much needed it.

Any flash memory block has a finite number of read/write cycles before it becomes unusable. These are speced for higher number of read write cycles compared to regular cards. These also contain built -in error-correction to fix any read/write errors.

Any reason why this new card model is not recommended for VIOFO dash cams?
Frankly, as others mentioned, it might be VIOFO partnering with Sandisk in the US, since the separate UK entity has a completely different list: https://viofouk.co.uk/news/recommended-sd-cards/

I have not seen any widespread VIOFO issues from users on the Internet. In fact, more mention Sandisk failures over the years than Samsung.

So the old pro endurance is ok. The new one is not.

Temperature ratings are the same.

Your last point doesn't make sense.

What point? That both types of cards have the same failure rates in 24/7 systems? If so, provide proof of that.

And a bargain-basement card may well not have the same temperature range as a better one. Non-operating temperature has the greatest impact on SD card performance. The lower the non-operating temperature, the better the life expectancy will be while higher temperatures will lower life expectancy of the card.

Anyone knows if the Wyze V3 cam is able to take this 256 GB sd card and also utilize all the space available?

The fact is there is no proof they have different failure rates. You're even questioning viofo and they have more reason to test cards.

Without proof you must assume failure at any time.

So, your proof is "because I said so."

It took me 5 seconds...

"The only situation where I've seen cards fail is when they're used in dashcams and security cameras. Writing video to the card continuously (sometimes 24/7, in the case of security cameras), combines with the heat from the heavy usage, taking a toll on them.
How much more life can you get from a high-endurance microSD card compared with a regular microSD card?
This isn't clear-cut, not only because manufacturers don't divulge ratings for regular microSD cards, but because the ratings given for the high-endurance cards aren't guarantees. A better way to look at this is, rather than trying to judge comparative reliability in a single situation, think of heavy-duty cards as being more reliable in the long term because they are designed for continuous use.
If you've invested in a dashcam or security camera, it makes sense to invest in storage that's designed to put up with that sort of workload, because if your storage card fails, then spending money on the cameras was pointless."

And I didn't question VIOFO. I simply reported their recommendation, but am skeptical.

Is there any change in reliability for larger 256gb SD cards vs 128? Also would devices like dashcams that list up to 128gb have any issues with 256gb?

And I've had SanDisk cards die from normal dslr usage.

Without proof, then for something critical then you must assume the worst.

Also people are using their normal cards for dashcam usage without issues. What keeps Samsung from just rebadging?

The more a card is used, the more recording passes occur. A 2K or 4K cam (or upscaled fake 4K) will continually record and erase much more data than a 1080p unit.

And if the camera stipulates a maximum of 128, that's your limit (and it's likely a low-resolution blurry camera to begin with).

Loving these price drops. Hoping the 64 GB model starts dropping in price and 32 GB for random cameras.
