Wrong. Both the 990 Pro and the 980 Pro HAD defective firmware that was incorrectly reading the wear percentage of the drives. Once the drives get to a certain wear percentage reading, they become permanently read-only to prevent data loss. The drives weren't actually wearing out. The firmware was incorrectly reading the wear percentage and locking down the drives. The firmware for both drives has been fixed and this is no longer an issue. These drives more than likely already come with the fixed firmware, but it's best to download Samsung Magician when you install the drive to make sure.

He's misinformed. Read my previous previous comment. It WAS a serious firmware bug, but that's been fixed for awhile. If for some reason this drive comes with the old buggy firmware, just download Samsung Magician and update it. It's a non-issue now.

Wrong. Multiple media outlets and Backblaze have all tested the drives with the fixed firmware and they're lasting beyond their rated TBW. Not to mention the 980 Pro had the same firmware bug, and they've been proven reliable, aside from that bug. Stop spreading misinformation.

Technology on the aggregate is deflationary, yes, but prices are cratering rapidly in storage specifically right now, and the effect in the short term is because of the supply > demand imbalance (as others have noted). I mean, I bought this drive for $80 at Samsung a month ago and it's now 12.5%+ cheaper and there seems to be no bottom in sight. That's wild.

You're not as wrong as people are saying you are, though. Smilie
