My wife is a hardware engineer in the SSD industry. She estimates prices down another 15-30% within 3-4 months based on current projections.

Edit: she got mad at me when I told her I posted this. The things do for my beloved SD <3

Samsung runs hot. Hynix runs cool.

P31 is probably the most efficient SSD on the market. It can make your laptop last longer in battery mode when compare to other SSD especially PICe Gen 4 ones. On top of that, it also has top performance in terms of PCIe 3 spec.

Laptops.

No point thermally throttling a 980 pro.

Also most are delusional if they think they use their old laptop hard enough to tell the difference as the dorm factor is a natural constraint.

Thanks for letting me know. Brotherhood still matters. I will wait. After having bought 10 1tb Hynix for $108 in the past.

So tempted. I have the 1TB and it's a great drive.

Don't need 2TB

So $70 for 2TB? And you know this how, exactly? What's your long term time frame.

I'd certainly like to save more money and want 4TB for $200, but I haven't seen that yet. I also have no way of knowing what the real bottom is, and I doubt even the companies know unless they've already planned a fire sale. I strongly doubt that you know either, so I wonder where you get your "secret knowledge" this will actually happen.

What people fail to understand is that these prices are NOT permanent. They are due to a temporary over supply and inventory clean out. When Gen 3 drives are gone, they won't be making more. Gen 4 drives will soon see the same fate. These (drives from a reputable mfg vs chinese junk) are not going to drop to nearly "free" as some people believe.

Since NVME/PCIe drives are backwards compatible, soon people who have a Gen 3 computer will be forced to buy Gen 5 (or later) because that's all that will be available. Caveat - if they come up with new, durable - as opposed to QLC shlt - memory technology that allows them to produce 2TB drives for peanuts, they will still cost about this much (+/-) because companies always want to maximize profits.

You don't see/hear much talk about Gen 5 products now, but the industry will not be so generous in the future when more platforms actually support it.

If you want verification look at the grossly over inflated hard drive prices (base tech around for 40+ years). We have to pay 1,000% markups on old tech that should be inexpensive, but the industry is owned by a few mfgs (a duopoly in reality) and they can gouge at will, so they do. Drives are overpriced and smaller sizes unavailable so people need to buy larger, more expensive drives.

I wish I was wrong, but I think this trend will continue, at least until SSD capacity expands significantly and by then you won't be able to buy a 2TB drive.

BTW - I bought this exact drive last September for $160 on sale, so this is almost a 40% decrease. I had no choice on waiting though.... c'est la vie
I agree with the price manipulation. Unfortunately we can't do anything about it. I remember buying 256gb for $100 and that was cheap at that time. It's not different from printing industry locking onto their ink cartridge with microchip. Those microchip are the failures of capitalism bc they create fake reason to force ppl to buy their brand ink cartridge instead of DiY ink fill. I despise printers microchip.

Not to be rude but I think you may need to develop some self-control because you might have a problem with hoarding Hynix SSDs.

Yup.

Agreed and everyone should boycott HP; they're probably the slimiest of the bunch right now and they can effectively cripple your printer via the net. Never, repeat never, allow HP to sign you up for their ink deals; your printer will never be able to use anything but the ink they sell you (at a grossly inflated price) after you agree once.

All these companies want you to become a "renter". Adobe, MS, HP, etc. Unless stopped, in the not too distant future, Corporations will literally tell you what you can and can't do with your life. This has been underway for more than 10 years and it's a stated goal of many CEOs... F'em I say...
