I love buying like new from Amazon Warehouse, 95% of the time it was just a simple return from a previous customer and it saves me a ton on high ticket items like these vacuums
This is a great price especially considering it has the clean base. Amazon warehouse has like new ones for $218. I decided to test my luck — guessing it's brand new with just a dented box. Worth the gamble given the retail is $600

I can't understand why Roomba still hasn't incorporated LiDAR into their vacuums. Crazy how Roborock came out of nowhere and dominated the robovac market.

It genuinely feels like it should be the default. I have no idea why companies are doing anything but.

What about the actual vacuuming performance? The mapping hardware and algorithm is not everything.

Every single roborock vacuum ive owned also excel im this area as well. Powerful suction and great battery life. You want to make sure the model you get is suitable for the surface you want to vacuum. For example, my near 4 year old S4 is great on hardwood but so much on high carpet.
I've moved from iRobot in 2016 to Samsung jetbot and roborock s7+ and have never been more happy. iRobot would constantly get stuck. The emptying bin's hinges are made of plastic and after a year the little pegs broke off. Cost of a new bin was $100. Samsung jetbot after figuring out the no-go zones I completely forgot about. The self emptying bin is a real winner. Roborock maintains its value and the mopping function is an extra benefit. All in all, iRobot might have been first to market with fancy cat commercials but they've fallen off with no LiDAR or innovation.
FWIW, eBay has refurbs of the i7+, sold by iRobot, that go on sale constantly around $350. I have had really great luck with mine. Not sure what the differences are between the i4 or i7 though
I have had a few different robot vacuums. Not this specific model but the I-robot one I had was the worst. It broke multiple times (and was replaced through warranty). Ultimately I got my money back. The design of the brush head was what failed.

I got a J8+ from Costco on sale a few months ago and mapping wise...took maybe two passes and it learned the entire floor. First pass was near perfect. LIDAR would be fine....if it was needed? Robot vacs sometimes feel like phone conversations where one OS doesn't have X, so now everyone wishes it had X. The ones who do have X though may not be using it correctly in the first damn place....
The bigger battery and extra accessories were more than needed, as doing 2 passes can be draining.
Overall, I highly recommend the J8+ from Costco. I now just run a cheap stick vac for the stairs and stuff. Only "issue" is that I have to carry the base down to the basement with the vac so the self-cleaning can happen. Boo-hoo for me, but for someone else, investing in an additional base may be smart.
Would I buy this one? Honestly, if I had disposable income, I'd buy this used just for the basement...

Without LiDar, iRobot sucks. It can't even get back to the dock correctly.
Just to note, mine does a wonderful job returning back to the base. When I take it to a new floor, I simply plug the base back in, let it sit for about 30 seconds, and then start it up. Only will not return if it legit has a stuck wheel.
Of course, all of this is pure YMMV, but I've not had the experiences that others have had (I have the J8+ from Costco)

The battery is the biggest issue with the Roomba IMO.
It's frustrating that they put a tiny battery in them (even the upgraded battery this one has is only a hair bigger), even though there is plenty of room for a larger battery.
When you are vacuuming a small space it's fine, but if you want to do 2 passes over a 1500-2500 SF house, got to be prepared for it to take at least all day because it will be charging half the time.
