I like really hot, hot sauce. This is not in that category. But, this tastes very, very good.
What's your fav super hot sauce?
Mine is Reaper Saueezins by the og PuckerButt. Elijah's Xtreme regret on Amazon is great too. I've bought 600+ different types of hot sauce in the last 8 years. I lost count on how many actual bottles. I've bought and consumed over 250 of just one kind, just from my favorite Joey's hot sauce, a small batch brand.
I've gravitated to prefer sauces with natural ingredients in without fillers. I'll still eat any hot sauce but I feel much better when I eat a natural sauce, I don't get the bloating or rumbles. I used to think it was from the level of spice but now I realize it's the ingredient quality. I still enjoy any level of spicy but I like rich flavor more now a days. My top sauce isn't even that spicy but it's delicious. It's made by the offspring of an Italian chef who worked inside of world class whole food restaurants, and he made it for his wife but it caught on so he followed the calling.
My current top 10 in rotation
1. Joey's Hot Sauce - Priscilla
2. Senior Lechuga .5326 (Reaper, Heirloom tomato, truffle)
3. Senior Lechuga .507 (Hans, Coffee, Cascara)
4. Joey's Hot Sauce - Scotch bonnet
5. Senior Lechuga .001 (Habs, onion, reapers)
6. Tobasco family reserve
7. Humbolt Hot Sauce Manago Habenero
8. El Yucateco Habanero
9. Gringo Bandito Super Hot
10. Trader Joe's Peri-Peri Sauce
As others mentioned, this one is indeed not very hot at all and has a sweet note after the heat dissipates. The truffle aroma is definitely there and can be overpowering for people who do not like it. I usually don't use it directly as it would be too funky for me. However, mix it in with other sauces and it can add an interesting depth to the food. It made my pasta dishes tastier and I will probably try it in Korean dishes next as the hot and sweet flavor reminds me of Tteokbokki, spicy stir fried rice cakes.
